God's grace is a gift, given through Christ and received by faith. Through this gift of God, we are led by the Holy Spirit to love and work for justice and peace.
In the ELCA we believe in a loving and inclusive community that reaches out to all. We're dedicated to service, guided by our faith to love and support each other just as Jesus did.

Are you interested in what you can do as a non-partisan influence in this election cycle? Take your energy to the network - an opportunity for individuals and our congregations to share in our communities love in action.
ELCA Election Activators from various parts of our ELCA faith community are invited to a call once-a-month to for updates and to hear from each other about local initiatives. Because the ELCA does not endorse a particular candidate, party or form of government or strive for a Christian one, participation requires sign-up and a non-partisan pledge. "Lutherans care about government because it is a gift from God intended for the safety and flourishing of human life" (from ELCA social message "Government & Civic Engagement in the United States: Discipleship in a Democracy").
Our first virtual meeting is July 23. Learn more today! https://blogs.elca.org/advocacy/elca-election-activator-network/

Friends in Christ:
I am forwarding here a pastoral statement on the killing of Sonya Massey, written by Bishop Greg Busboom of the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of the ELCA, where this killing took place. I encourage you to read it and share it, and to hold all those impacted by this senseless tragedy in prayer. I also invite you to remember that events like this impact many more than those who may have known Sonya Massey or live in the community where it happened. Too many of our siblings in Christ, especially members of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color community, have seen and experienced violence and abuse by those in power who are sworn to protect and serve, and events like this can open old wounds and bring fears and anxieties to the surface. I invite us to listen to one another, to hold space for the sadness, fear, anger, and whatever other emotions might surface, and then I call upon us all to work together to create the beloved community that we so desperately need and so deeply long for.
In Christ,
Bishop Paul Erickson
