Acupressure for stress, anxiety, and emotional distress. Knowing how to calm down when the body is winding up is a strategy for keeping peace when feeling out of control.

Heart 7 (HT7): Can help with emotional issues related to the heart, insomnia, poor memory, and more
Pericardium 6 (PC6): Can help regulate the heart, calm the mind, and relieve chest oppression
Lung 9 (LU9): Can help with stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma

📍Use your finger or other blunt tool (like a pen cap) to apply pressure to each point.
Stimulate each point for as long as feels good for you – most people find 30 second to 2 minutes manageable for each point.

Traditional Chinese Medicine observes a close relationship between the human and natural environment. The seasonal patterns can be seen in the seasonal symptoms we experience. Summer grows into a peak heat in July, and with that heat the humid weather manifests as damp conditions in the human body. As we approach the greatest- Major Heat of the year, it is common to feel more digestive issues. A damp body feels heavy, lethargic, swollen, inflamed, puffy, and digestion feels "stuck". While it may be tempting to try to cool off with iced beverages, cold foods, more air conditioning, and less activity- those are all habits that will make it worse! Even more aggravating are greasy, fried, rich and creamy or heavy dairy foods.

What to do: Sip on warm ginger tea, lightly cook seasonal foods, and get out for a walk every day before or after the peak heat. Try to acclimate to some warm temperatures and let yourself sweat. The body can cool off, but cold food, heavy food, and cold indoor temps will make the body work overtime to stimulate digestion and keep up with the demands of so many extremes.

Eat breakfast every morning and drink warm ginger tea if digestion is sluggish.

• Foods to Include: Warm, cooked foods like ginger, garlic, and bitter greens. Seasonal produce. Lightly cooked grains such as quinoa and barley can also help to dry dampness.
• Foods to Avoid: Dairy, fried foods, sugary and greasy items, and excessive cold and raw foods.

If this all does not seem to be enough, get some acupuncture.

Summer is in full bloom! Flowers can provide us with more than beauty. We can also make delicate floral teas with medicinal qualities. Sometimes we may look no further than our own garden for valuable remedies.

Be sure to only forage plants you are familiar with and always make sure medications will not react to herbal medicines. Additionally, healthy plants are free from pesticides and industrial contaminants.

All in correct time. The body has a rhythm just like everything else in nature. By returning to, or even just acknowledging this cycle, we can reconnect with our bodies and have a better understanding of how to support ourselves for optimal health. Split into 2 hour intervals, each time frame correlates with yin or yang, a time of day, an element, each organ and its biological function, an emotion, and a season.

With Father’s Day approaching, you may notice heightened emotions and sensitivity since your dad is no longer living life alongside you. For many fatherless people, holidays like Father’s Day bring large waves of grief, feelings of isolation, and yearning for more time together. You don’t have to go through this time alone.

In this therapeutic circle, you will have the opportunity to share stories about your dad, allow your grief to move as it needs to, gather with fellow fatherless grievers, and leave with ideas of how to honor your dad as you move forward. Beverages provided.

Existential grief may result from intense feelings of despair as one considers questions like, “What is the point?” or “Why does any of this matter?”

With uncertainty and feelings of fear and sadness, one may feel anxious, hopeless, angry or depressed. Many factors can contribute to these feelings and learning how to cope and let go of the physical stress is important for wellness.

Join Madisen Stoler, LPC, and Alisyn Benkowski, Reiki + Sound Vibrational Therapy, of MKE MindBody Wellness for their gorgeous offering, Releasing Existential Grief and Stress, on April 27th at 11am. They will provide various practices for reflection, sharing, and skill building, centered around coping with the heaviness of existential grief and moving through the emotions that present. Alisyn compliments the experience with multiple elements of sound healing to assist in the releasing of what we may be holding in our bodies, hearts, and minds.

Group size is limited to just 14 people.

Cold rain can weight heavily on the body. People with cold hands and feet may be really feeling the chill. Foot baths are really helpful for warming the blood and acupuncture channels in the feet that flow all the way up the legs and into the abdomen. Old pain and osteoarthritis can settle deep in the joints in cold damp weather, so spending time warming the feet can also promote the flow of warm blood to the joints. Warming Foot baths can help sleep, menstrual cramps, cold hands and feet, and cold painful joints.

☺️ Warming Foot Bath

Ingredients:
Ginger slices (姜)(1/4 cup)
Epsom salt (1 cup)
optional: white rice wine (白酒)(50ml)

Directions: Boil the ginger in water for a few minutes. Add ginger (and rice wine) to hot water in a basin. Soak for 15-30 minutes or until there’s a slight sweat.

■ Bring 2 liters of water to a boil, add herbs, reduce to a simmer for 15 minutes.

■ Remove ginger add herbal liquid to basin with 1 cup of epsom salts and enough water to cool the liquid to desire temp for soaking

■ Soak for 20 minutes or until sweating

As your body warms up you may start to sweat. Some mild sweating is good, but you should stop before an excessive sweat begins.

Soaking in hot water activates blood and energy throughout the body.
Soaking until there’s a sweat can relieve symptoms of cold, flu and menstrual cramps.
