The NAACP, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, educators, and students have filed a complaint against Arkansas challenging the LEARNS Act and the discriminatory treatment of the Advanced Placement (AP) African American Studies course in public schools.

"These coordinated efforts to rewrite our history, remove our leaders from classrooms, and degrade our culture are a covert attempt to revert the progress we've worked tirelessly to secure. We refuse to go back."

— Derrick Johnson, NAACP President and CEO

Our kids deserve the funding they need to be successful! The referendum is supported by most Milwaukee local and state leaders because they know our kids deserve to keep programming like art, music, library, and physical education brought back to all students in the last four years.

To close out , we recognize Ardie Clark Halyard, known best for co-founding the first African American-owned savings and loan association (S&L), AND for becoming the first woman president of the NAACP Milwaukee Branch.

Much like WWBIC's objectives today, Ardie Clark Halyard's hard work and dedication helped many women and African Americans secure home loans free from discrimination based on race and thus have the same home-owning opportunities as everyone else. This March, we honor all women, past, present, and future for by saluting notable female figures who've paved the way for future generations of women.
