🚒 Supporting Our First Responders! 🚒
Yesterday, I was thrilled to join Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and Councilman Edward Scott in presenting the Albertson Fire Company Hook & Ladder - Engine & Hose Co. 1 with a check for $209,000 that I secured from the American Rescue Plan Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.

The Albertson Fire Company, comprised of selfless volunteers, has been steadfast in its mission to serve the community for 113 years. Ensuring that our courageous and dedicated emergency services have everything they need to continue their vital work is my top priority.

Let's continue to support and appreciate our first responders who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe!

I’m thrilled to share that working alongside Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, I have secured $350,000 for the Oyster Bay Fire Department through the American Rescue Plan Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. This grant will help the department continue delivering top-notch emergency services to our community. The Oyster Bay Fire Department is an incredible volunteer team with over 80 active members, proudly serving our community for 136 years. Supporting our first responders, who are always there to keep us safe, is a top priority for me, and I'm so happy we can provide them with the resources they need.

I am heartbroken over the sudden death of my friend, Councilman Christopher Carini.
Chris was a loving friend, dedicated husband and an incredible father. He devoted his life to public service from his time with the NYPD and Port Authority Police, to his involvement and commitment to local civic and community organizations and serving the community as a Town of Hempstead Councilman.
Chris was always someone you could count on, and he will be deeply missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Danielle, and his children Ava and Joey, during this incredibly difficult time.

Violence has absolutely no place in our society. My thoughts and prayers are with President Donald Trump and all of those injured in the horrible incident that took place this evening.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nassau County Police Department Chief of Patrol Kevin Canavan, who succumbed to cancer related to his service during 9/11. Chief Canavan dedicated his career to the NCPD, starting in 1985 and rising to the second highest uniformed position. He was among the brave officers involved in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero. Chief Canavan remained active in the department until his passing and was recently honored with the 2024 Theodore Roosevelt Award. Rest in peace, Chief. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

I had the pleasure of presenting high school senior, Alexis Schweitzer, with the Civic Engagement Award during Roslyn High School’s Senior Awards Ceremony. Alexis’s commitment to public service through her work to fundraise for Skin Cancer and create a social media outlet to help spread awareness on Skin Cancer is truly impressive and commendable. Alexis' dedication to her community makes her an invaluable asset to the world and a truly exceptional young woman. Congrats to Alexis and the class of 2024!

It’s not often that I get to see the courtroom from the angle of the “judge’s bench”, but I had the best time serving as the judge in a mock trial. I had the honor of seeing the 4th & 5th-grade students from East Hills School in Roslyn and Harbor Hill School in Greenvale tackle such a nuanced case on the civil assumption of risk with such enthusiasm. The talent, passion, and work ethic of these young students were truly astounding, and I can’t wait to see all of the amazing things that each and every one of them will accomplish!

On June 6th, 1944, our brave military raided the beaches of Normandy, France, in one of the deadliest and most important actions of World War II. Each year, we lose more and more veterans of this monumental event, so it is important that every D-Day we honor those that fought for our freedom and livelihood on that day. This past D-Day, I joined with elected officials, diplomats from France and England and many veterans at the Museum of American Armor to remember those that gave their lives on the beaches of Normandy, and those that have died since then and are still with us. Thank you for your service to this great nation.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in history when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from tyranny. Let's honor the courage, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of those who fought for freedom. Lest we forget their bravery and the ultimate price paid for peace.

The Nassau County Department of Health has issued an advisory against bathing at North Hempstead Beach Park, Laurel Hollow Beach, and Creak Club. This advisory is being issued as a precaution due to stormwater from heavy rainfall, which can increase bacteria levels and make the water quality unsuitable for bathing. The advisory is expected to be lifted at 8 a.m. on Friday, unless there is additional heavy rainfall, or water samples indicate that there are high levels of bacteria present in the water.
