While the recently issued 4-day ceasefire does not mark the end of the Israel-Hamas war, we celebrate that dozens of Palestinian and Israeli civilian hostages have been released. New City Church urges our community to pray for peace in the face of what Amnesty International calls “indiscriminate and other unlawful attacks” that has led to “unfettered devastation and suffering” in Gaza.
Further, New City urges all Christians in the US to vigilantly address the rise of anti-Muslim and antisemitic rhetoric and violence. Our baptismal vows commit us to “resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves,” including oppression against those of other religions.
This Advent season, we remember that God came to liberate the whole world, and God chose to start first with the most oppressed. 🕊
