Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Monday for our October Board/Annual meeting and for coming out to vote at our board elections! We are so grateful to have such dedicated and informed residents who care about our community. Congratulations to the newest residents to join the board Damiean Palacios (2), Joseph Olson (4), and Kathy Neitzke (8), and to the returning board members Jewel Glaspie (4), Steven Johnson (8), Arlene El-Amin (12), and Maria Little-Arnold!
Mark your calendars - we will be holding a Senior Luncheon on Thursday, November 2nd from 12 - 1:30pm at UROC. We are so excited to continue connecting with NRRC seniors and hope to see you there! Please see below for details.
On November 9th at 10:00 AM, the City Council's Business, Inspections, Housing and Zoning (BIHZ) Committee will consider TXT Wine and Spirits' application for a liquor license to operate at 700 West Broadway (currently Merwin Liquors). This is a change from the previously scheduled October 24th meeting.

The Minnesota Department of Education invites you to join their Community Education Conversation. The aim of this gathering is to strengthen coordination throughout the community. This event is free to the public and dinner will be provided.

Today is the day! When you come in to vote today, you will be able to vote for the candidates running in your district or write in the name of a resident from your district. If you are submitting a write-in vote, please remember to leave contact information in order for NRRC to follow-up with the resident. Please keep in mind that in order to vote, you will also need to provide proof of residency.

October Board and Annual Meeting, Book Giveaway, + more At their meeting on October 4, Commissioners for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) voted to approve a concept design for the North Commons Park Improvements project that focuses on major renovations and additions to existing facilities.

Today at UROC (5:30-7:30) there will be a Town Hall hosted by Rep. Esther Agbaje, Rep. Fue Lee and Senator Bobby Joe Champion. Also this evening at 6:00, there is a Public Hearing in the community room of the Northside Cub to gather perspectives on TXT Wine and Spirits' application for a liquor license to operate at 700 West Broadway which is currently known as Merwin Liquors. It is officially autumn and that means voting season is here! Elections for city council will be held on November 7 and early voting for the Minneapolis City Council elections began last week.
Also, next month NRRC residents will have the opportunity to determine who represents their interests on the NRRC board. NRRC Board Elections will be held on October 16 from 3:00-7:00 at UROC (2001 Plymouth Ave. N.).

The location currently is licensed for off sale liquor and to***co dealing. The applicant is applying for those same licenses. The
proposed hours of operation are Monday to Saturday 9am – 10pm. Sunday 11am – 6pm.

Public Hearing on North Commons TONIGHT!
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is holding a public hearing on two preferred draft concepts for the project to transform North Commons Park on Wednesday, September 20 at 6:30 pm.
Following an April update on the project presented to the Board of Commissioners, the project team developed two preferred draft concept designs: One builds a new recreation center, water park and parking lot ($49 million total project budget). The other
renovates the existing recreation center and builds an addition, plus a new water park and parking lot ($35 million total project budget).
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 6:30 pm in the Board Room of the Mary Merrill Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Headquarters, 2117 West River Road, Minneapolis, during the Board of Commissioners’ meeting.
Everyone is welcome to share comments, in person or in writing, on the two preferred draft concepts for North Commons Park.
Speak in person: Go to the MPRB Headquarters Board Room (second floor) before the hearing begins and add your name to the sign-up sheet at the Board Room entrance. You can also call 612-230-6400 before 3 pm on Wednesday, September 20 to sign up to speak.

It's that time of year again -- NRRC's board elections are coming up! This year, board elections will be held for the even-numbered districts in Willard-Hay and Near North along with any openings in the odd numbered districts. That means there are openings in districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, &13. Elections will be held on October 16 from 3:00-7:00 at UROC (2001 Plymouth Ave. N.). If you are interested in representing your district, please submit your application by 5:00 October 11, 2023 to be listed on the ballot. Download an application at https://nrrc.org/staff-and-board.
