Washburn High School is proud to announce that we have 7 National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists from the Class of 2025. Our students are among only 16,000 nationwide who have earned this distinction representing less than 1% of the nation's high school graduating seniors. They will now move on to the competition to become a Finalist. Results will be announced in the Spring. This is the most semi-finalists that Washburn has had from one class in recent memory and the most of any public or private high school in Minneapolis this year.
The Semifinalists are: Elsie Herber, Cora Sanger, Chloe Angerman, Silas Falbo, Kate Newton, Clara Willingham, and Harley Peterson.
Members of the Class of 2026 can qualify to become semi-finalists by signing up to take the PSAT in October. The link to register is here: https://user.totalregistration.net/PSAT/241695

We kicked off the new school year on a positive note with a welcome back pepfest on Friday introducing the staff and student council leaders, cheering performances by the band and cheerleaders, and celebrating school spirit.
Washburn welcomed 9th graders from the class of 2028 with welcoming messages from administrators and the student council and an appearance by the Miller mascot. After the 9th grade orientation students learned about the many clubs and activities they can join.
We welcomed the 50 year class reunion for the Washburn High School class of 1974 back to Washburn on Friday with a tour of the school. It was great to hear the stories and the memories that came flooding back as people sat in classrooms and walked the hallways of their alma mater.
