Remembering Evangeline Booth (First Female General of The Salvation Army)

As one of eight children in the Booth family, Catherine grew up spreading the mission of The Salvation Army, quickly gaining a reputation as a capable leader. She spearhead significant fundraising efforts to support the survivors of the 1905 San Francisco earthquake and soldiers on the front lines during World War I. In 1934, she became the first woman elected General by the High Council.

Fate Intertwined: A Passion-Fueled Love Story That Stands the Test of Time. ❤️

Picture this: it was the mid-1980s, and two young children, now Major Matt and Major Dianne, found themselves at the San Diego Citadel Corps. Major Matt's parents were assistant corps officers, and Major Dianne's family were frequent attendees. Though they were just kids at the time, little did they know that their paths would cross again in the future.

Fast forward to 1999, and fate brought them together once more. Major Dianne was working as the Divisional Youth Secretary, and Major Matt was serving as a youth director at the El Cajon Corps. As they reconnected and caught up on lost time, they discovered they shared a deep love for music 🎼, ministry ⛪, and most importantly, for helping young people.

But as time passed, their connection grew stronger, and they soon realized their love for each other was just as strong. They tied the knot in 2002 and have been inseparable ever since. Together, they have raised two amazing teenagers, all while continuing to pursue their passion for music and youth development. Truly a love story for the ages!

At the tender ages of 13 and 15, Captain Jeffrey Breazeale and Captain Katie Breazeale crossed paths for the first time. As soon as Captain Katie laid her eyes on Captain Jeffrey, she felt a spark of recognition that he was the one for her. ✨

Despite a few years passing and Captain Jeffrey dating other girls, he eventually summoned the courage to ask Katie to be his girlfriend. The proposal overjoyed Captain Katie, and at only 15 and 17 years old, they embarked on a lifelong romance.

They tied the knot 💒 when they were 16 and 19 years old, and now, twenty-seven years later, they have a bustling household comprising 5 kids, 2 dogs, 4 cats, and even a partridge in a pear tree.

Finding Love in the Kitchen 🍳❤️

Captain Timothy Witcher and Captain Heather Witcher’s love story started at a Salvation Army Summer Camp in Omaha, where Captain Heather was the dining room hostess and Captain Timothy was the cook.

Captain Heather was head over heels from the start, but it took Captain Timothy a little longer to realize Captain Heather was the answer to his prayers! 🙏💕

Two years later, after another summer of serving together, they tied the knot and have been happily married for 32+ years. “Doing life, ministry, and even trunk or treats with my Tim is a true blessing”.

Back in 1999, Major Harold Laubach's life was in turmoil as he was a truck driver 🚚 from Pennsylvania, raising two young children on his own and going through a divorce. In his spare time, he turned to America Online (AOL) for some distraction, never realizing that it would be the start of an incredible love story.

One fateful day, Major Maggie Laubach, a single mom living in Arizona, stumbled upon his AOL profile, and sparks flew immediately. Despite the distance between them, they talked on the phone ☎️ every chance they got, racking up a massive phone bill of $800 per month. Taking a leap of faith, Major Harold invited Major Maggie to fly to Pennsylvania to meet him in person and go on a cross-country road trip to Arizona. To his astonishment, she agreed.

As they journeyed across the country, Major Maggie checked in with her family from payphones, just in case Major Harold turned out to be an ax 🪓 murderer. Fortunately, he wasn't, and they fell deeply in love. They tied the knot the following December, started a family, and raised four wonderful children.

Despite coming from different backgrounds and cultural histories, their love remained steadfast as they trusted in God to guide them. Now, after 24 years, they are still together and excited to see what life has in store for them next. ❤️

(Part 3 of our Valentine's Week series)

Captain Chris Wikle and Captain Erin Wikle met while serving with Summer Service Corps and our love story took off over horchata and street tacos 🌮 Fast forward 18 years and 4 kids later, they’re now serving full-time with The Salvation Army in San Francisco 💪❤️

Their journey started in Mexico and continues to be a beautiful adventure 🇲🇽

Part 2 of Our Valentine's Week Series: "From Summer Flirtation to Holy Matrimony: A Heartwarming Love Story of Two Lovebirds at Camp Kuratli That Led Them to Become Salvation Army Officers" ❤️

In the summer of 1992, at the Army’s Camp Kuratli (Portland, Oregon), Major Mary Norton was working as the camp nurse. Of course, Major Darren Norton found any excuse to visit her: Stubbed toe? Mosquito bite? Summer fever? If the nurse could help him, he was there. At the end of the season, Major Darren Norton moved to the town where Major Mary Norton was living because just one summer together wasn’t enough. A year later, they tied the knot, and another year after that, they followed God’s leading to become Salvation Army Officers. The rest, as they say, is history ✨

A Prayer for 💙⬇️

Gracious and Loving God, we acknowledge you as the source of our best counsel and guidance, believing that you always direct us in ways that are best for us.

We pray for our leaders to continually develop their sensitivity to your voice by making time to be in your presence.

Fill them with your wisdom as they listen for you in the quiet spaces.

Surround them also with people who will offer sound advice and encouragement and fill them with a spirit of humility to accept the collective wisdom of these.

Please keep them strong against any voices that would seek to discourage or undermine and tune their ears to words that provide guidance and direction towards Christlike, fruitful leadership.

Thank You for your generosity to pour out your wisdom upon our leaders, giving them the ability to discern your ways and make decisions aligned with your purposes for The Salvation Army today and into the future, Amen.
