Veraison is here and doing its magic!

So far, the growing season has been close to perfect. With moderate heat and sunny days, the vines are thriving. The cool nights and foggy mornings of the next few weeks will allow us to achieve optimal color and freshness in the wines.

As this year's Harvest is around the corner, we are busy in the cellar, making room for the new wines to come.

This is what the inside of our 30hL foudres from looks like after our Chardonnay has aged for 12 months on fine lees.
The smells of crushed stone and jasmine are unbelievable!

Not only do these casks showcase the unmatched craftsmanship of these master coopers, but they also elevate the wines to a superior level of texture and complexity that emphasizes the qualities of the Carneros Terroir.

As the first days of Summer unfold, the work in the vineyard is done. The crew has done an excellent job managing the canopies early on, and the crop could not look more balanced.
The grapes remain protected under the foliage during Veraison, and the cover that was mowed into a mulch preserves the moisture in the soil.

We are now entering the last stretch of the growing season, the last few weeks before the beginning of Harvest 2024, as Mother Nature finalizes the last details.
A long and nerve-racking wait, what feels like an eternity sometimes, but a crucial step that will define the vintage to come.

And just like that, in the blink of an eye, we are already at the pea-size stage!

The moderate heat and the generous sunshine have accelerated the growth of the canopies and the development of the 2024 crop.

Yields are balanced and clusters remain small, which is a promising sign for the vintage to come.

Pictured above is Hyde Wente Chardonnay planted in 1979, with the classic tiny clusters and different sized berries (also called millerandage or hens and chicks).

We are so humbled and proud of this offering, born in some of the most challenging vintages we have ever experienced. But the resulting wines are full of character, showing freshness and purity of both aromas and structure.

The never-ending life cycle of a vineyard.

While the vines have entered a much deserved period of dormancy after a bountiful harvest, the crew is now working on pruning.

The cover crop, boosted by the organic compost, is slowly taking over and will help re-energize the ground for the new vintage.

The Carrillo Cabernet Sauvignon is our newest offering.
Sourced from several cool climate vineyards in the south of Napa Valley, it is a throwback to the early days of Cabernet in Napa.

The Carrillo name is a reference to the ancestors of our founders, and more specifically to Maria Antonia Carrillo, the wife of Comandante de la Guerra in Santa Barbara, and the matriarch of the family.

The wine is an elegant blend of old Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted of 30 years ago in both Carneros and Coombsville.

The cool climate from the Pacific Ocean allows for delicate notes of violet and blue fruit, paired with graphite and fresh cacao, while the mouth showcases a solid core of red fruit and to***co.

Aged in 40% new oak for 22 months, this wine demonstrates refined tannins and balanced freshness, an ode to old school Napa.
says "it reminds me of Mondavi reserves in the late 1970s".

Only 250 cases produced every year.

Belle Cousine (“cousin in law” in French) is named as an hommage to Aubert de Villaine’s wife, Pamela, who is also Larry Hyde’s cousin, and thus the one who brought the two families together.

The wine is an elegant blend, driven by a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, and a smaller amount of Merlot, originated from heritage selections planted over 20 years ago at Hyde Vineyard.

The cool Carneros climate allows for delicate notes of currant, graphite and dried rose petale, balanced with a detailed yet rich body.
Aged in 25% new oak for 22 months, this wine showcases the most sophisticated attributes of both the Old an The New world Bordeaux blends.

Only 450 cases produced every year.
