New Bedford Art Museum: artMOBILE
The artMOBILE is an extension of the New Bedford Art Museum's education outreach program.
Operating like a bookmobile, two purple buses, each with two experienced educators, transport art supplies to community sites each week, reaching anywhere from 500-800 kids in a given summer. Five days a week, for eight weeks each year, kids in New Bedford's neighborhood have a place to create, explore, and play!
WHAT IS THE ARTMOBILE?
Operating much like a bookmobile, the 2 purple vans, each with 2 experienced art educators, engage low-income children with fun **FREE** educational art activities at 20 New Bedford community sites for 7 weeks July 11th to August 26th!
The art educators provide daily art activities for the children, many of whom enjoy the artMOBILE visits as their only summer enhancement activity. This past summer we served 1,673 children. Attending children and families were treated to FREE art museum passes and informed and invited to attend other programs available at the art museum during the year.
Our signature artMOBILE program is highly valued as a community outreach program that serves to engage families in creative educational experiences and access to the arts.

Tonight for AHA! we have 4 new exhibits! In the Skylight Gallery
A Collective Body: Uncovered and Illuminated is a group exhibition which features the work of Corpus VI, a contemporary collective of women artists, and presents diverse approaches to the figure across the disciplines of painting, drawing and sculpture. Holly Trostle Brigham, Clarity Haynes, Elena Peteva, Laurie Kaplowitz, Stacy Latt Savage and Suzanne Schireson, have each widely exhibited their work to national and international audiences and now come together in this NBAM/ArtWorks! exhibition curated by renowned art historian Dr. Memory Holloway. Four of the six artists have a direct connection to the city of New Bedford and all artists involved will engage in public events for the community to experience, understand and appreciate the exhibit.
- In the Regions Gallery
Timeless: Figurative studies in Print, Drawing & Sculpture featuring Judith Klein, Valorie Sheehan and Sheila Oliveira. This exhibition offers a combination of Printmaking, Photography and Sculpture to express the “timeless” interest in the female form. The exhibit combines the expression of three artists working in separate media to visually explore the female form in terms of age, object, & archetype. The starting point is the female form which is individually translated by
and through the concepts, beliefs and aesthetics of each artist: by women about the figure.
- In the City Gallery
Dead White Guys: 19th Century New Bedford Portraiture curated by the Library Art Curator Janice Hodson.
- Kids Summer Wrap Up Exhibition featuring work by kids in the Cool Art Kids, Teen Learn and Serve and artMOBILE programs. 5-7pm
