Written by DEF member Mary Waite:
Each year the Dartmouth Education Foundation funds grants submitted by teachers hoping to bring thoughtful, engaging programming, curriculum and technology to their students. On Friday, February 14th, Ms. Gardner used that grant to bring Author Padma Venkatraman to Dartmouth Middle School to talk about her novel, The Bridge Home, and her other work. I was humbled to be able to attend Ms. Venkatraman’s presentation alongside the entire 6th grade, and some 5th, 7th and 8th graders. Ms. Venkatraman spoke about her writing process, her life in science, the difficulty of being the sole minority woman in a post doc program, and the challenge our generation is leaving to all of our kids- the kids sitting in that auditorium- to face our climate crisis head on. She was amazing. Thank you Ms. Gardner for bringing this author to Dartmouth Middle School and for being an inspiring educator.
Dartmouth Education Foundation The 2020 Teacher Grant Award Program is not yet open for submissions. We will open the portal for submissions in February 2020.
