Figure & Texture Workshop: In-Person
Nov 12 - Nov 13, 2022
Painting flesh requires a confidence in observation, boldness in application of marks, and certainty of instinct.
In this course, students will learn to harness these skills and tackle the obstacles of beginning a successful foundation for a painting. Taught by MFA Faculty member Bernardo Siciliano, students will paint from life and through the use of a simplified composition with dramatic lighting will focus on the texture of the paint and the brushstrokes. Emphasis will be placed on beginning the painting with a strong attitude and immediate approach. Information will be presented through discussion, demonstration, and repetition. Additionally, particular attention will be placed on color temperature.

Nocturne Painting Workshop: In-Person
Fall 2022| Oct 15 - Oct 16
Join painter Jake Fischer for a two-day workshop where students will explore techniques of this luminous and contemplative genre.
Nocturne, a musical term borrowed by James McNeill Whistler to describe his paintings of the night, has been a celebrated tradition in art for centuries—from Caravaggio and Rembrandt, to Edward Hopper and Alex Katz. In this workshop, students will learn to build light from a dark ground, while exploring a variety of oil painting mediums and tools including Neo-Megilp and an assortment of palette knives and brushes. Working from photo references, students will compose and execute a "Nocturne Painting" using an alla prima technique.
