Explore the Blue Lakes Trail to Mount Sneffels, a must-do hike for outdoor enthusiasts. Starting at Blue Lakes Trailhead in Uncompahgre National Forest, this challenging route features steep switchbacks, crystal blue lakes, wildflower meadows, and Class 3 scrambling. The Yellow and Brown routes lead users to the Snowflake Trailhead, just a 5-minute hike away from the Reservoir Trailhead, located near the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center. This route is best enjoyed in summer when the ski area is inactive as it may be closed or challenging to navigate during winter. Please note that dogs are not permitted in this ski area during winter months for safety reasons. Despite its popularity due to its enjoyable and easily accessible nature, this trail can get quite crowded.
Due to limited parking availability with early filling of the lot, consider carpooling if possible. Keep in mind that overflow parking on county roads is strictly prohibited.

For a safe and enjoyable experience, it's crucial to focus on three key elements. Firstly, maintaining hydration is paramount. Remember to carry an adequate water supply and be mindful of available water sources along your route to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Secondly, whenever possible, seek out shade as it aids in regulating body temperature and provides relief from the harsh sun rays. Lastly, consider opting for hikes at higher elevations where cooler temperatures and refreshing breezes can amplify your comfort throughout the journey. Additionally, wearing lightweight and breathable clothing, using sunscreen, and scheduling your hike during cooler parts of the day can further enhance your adventure experience. Wishing you wonderful trails ahead!

Pacing and Intensity

- Adjust Your Intensity: During hotter days, lower the intensity of your workouts. Go for a brisk walk instead of a run, or do less strenuous activities.
- Interval Training: Incorporate intervals of lower-intensity exercise or rest periods to avoid overheating.
- Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, headache, nausea, or extreme fatigue. If you experience any of these, stop exercising and cool down immediately. Find more information here from the Mayo Clinic www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/heat-exhaustion/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20373253
