Hello Xiamen, your second store is all ready!  For the store design, we collaborated with the Japanese design studio no.10, and here are the designer’s notes:

“Xiamen, one of the five treaty ports established in the 1800s, is home to the ‘Amoy Deco Style,’ a captivating fusion of Modernism and Art Deco, a style unique to the island of Kulangsu. The buildings combine Western architecture with traditional Chinese building materials, featuring red and white bricks. It is also characterized by outdoor spaces that are loosely connected to the indoor areas.

The entire store is designed as a semi-outdoor space, with two entrances, and a small building for the barista’s in the center. The building itself is covered with local red brick incorporating Xiamen’s trademark details and switches to a pure white world on the inside.

The seating area is designed with the back of the benches showcasing mirrors separated by newly erected pillars to create views as if you’re looking through the windows. Immerse yourself in the history of Xiamen with brick cobblestone floors reminiscent of rug-like patterns, and comfortable chairs designed with a circular motif.”

Hong Kong, your newest store is all ready! This time, we’re opening a tiny, charming store in the heart of Queen’s Road Central. For the design, we collaborated with the Spanish design studio SelgasCano, and here are the designers’ notes:

“The new % Arabica store in Hong Kong is located right at the entrance of the iconic Entertainment Building. It has been one of our most challenging projects to date, as the space is divided into two parts, with a busy pedestrian walkway in between for people entering the building.

Our intention was to create two counters that function independently yet form a unified space. To achieve this, we used a unifying element: a corrugated aluminum sheet painted white, which ties the space together. To make the most of the limited area, we designed small opal niches in the gaps left by the existing structure, which also serve as lighting. These counters are backlit on their top sides, and combined with the other elements, they create a warm and tranquil environment amid the hustle and bustle of the city center.”

Bonjour Paris! As you know, our former franchise partner closed our stores during the pandemic, and we received many heartfelt messages from our loyal Parisian customers wishing for our return. Now, the time has finally come, with a brand-new partner.

For our comeback, we’ve chosen the vibrant Oberkampf neighborhood, just outside Le Marais and near Merci. For the store design, we collaborated with the Japanese architectural design studio based in Paris, Archiee, and here are the designer’s notes:

“The project is located on a three-sided street corner in Paris, within an architecturally unique topographical environment, with more than a meter of height difference. To maximize the spatial potential of the location, our primary idea was to create a setting where people gather at the different height foundations of the façade to enjoy a cup of coffee. Sitting in front of a café itself is a common landscape in Paris, but the act of sitting on the height differences between the interior and the ground is reminiscent of the scene around the window of a traditional Japanese house.

The traditional Parisian style of the façade is shown in wood and stone elements, while subtly adding a Japanese touch. Inside, the kitchen counter which serves as the main feature of the store, is arranged to form a dialogue around the existing large stone columns. Benches are lined along the exterior windows, inviting customers to sit and enjoy both the store’s interiors and the Parisian streets outside the windows.”

Türkiye, your very first store is finally ready to open! Located in the heart of Bağdat Street in Istanbul, this store marks our first step into a country with an incredible history. For the store design, we collaborated with the French design studio ciguë, and here are the designer’s notes:

“Situated along Istanbul’s vibrant commercial artery, the % Arabica store on Bağdat Street stands out as a unique space within a raw concrete shell, enhanced by a long terrace. Our concept began with the principle of preserving the raw integrity of the concrete walls and creating an array of wooden studs and beams, repeated throughout the space, which recall Japanese carpentry.

This concept of beams also extends outdoors in the form of a pergola, reflecting traditional coffee culture in Istanbul, where the sidewalks come alive with coffee enthusiasts. The long bench along the wall highlights this intention.

The pergola, made of aluminum, provides a sleek and minimal structure that embodies % Arabica’s core aesthetics. It not only offers shelter from the sun and rain but also enhances visibility from Bağdat Street, taking advantage of its corner location.”

New York, your newest store is ready to open. It is located in Midtown Manhattan on 54th Street next to MoMA. For the store design, we collaborated with the Spanish design studio SelgasCano. Here are the designer’s notes:

“The % Arabica café space opposite MoMA has an elongated shape, situated about a meter below street level. It spans about 20 x 3.7 meters, widening slightly towards the rear with a height of 2.55 meters.

This project aims to enhance the existing spatial characteristics. A new wooden “skin” envelops the space, following the building’s shape and integrating its imperfections. This new wooden structure, crafted with artisanal detail, wraps around the visitor from every angle, creating a harmonious environment.

The coffee preparation area features a 10-meter long counter, dividing the space horizontally: the upper part of the wooden skin is painted white, while the bottom remains natural wood, enhancing visual contrast and natural light. A large mirror is installed at the entrance to optically expand the area and enhance visitors’ experience.

The exterior façade maintains its anonymity, retaining imperfections and historical traces, with the % Arabica logo flowers as the only distinctive element inviting passersby to explore this unexpected world of % Arabica.”
