Founded in 1972, Vagonár , a distinguished folk ensemble from Poprad, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich musical and dance traditions of the Spiš region. But that's not all – their repertoire also includes dances from Šariš, Zemplín, Horehron, Liptov, and Goralské regions.

This incredible group not only performs on stage with songs and dances but also passionately keeps alive folk customs and traditions.

THE SEARCH FOR UTOPIA THROUGH THE EYES OF PAUL MARTINKA

As the Slovak-US group exhibition “The Search for Utopia” of works by Jozef Pilat, Miro Trubač, Natália Šimonová, Ema Lančaričová, Jeremy Dennis, Jeila Gueramian, Sophie Kahn and Eleen Lin is getting to the end, we are sharing few impressions as captured by great photographer Paul Martinka.

For those who still consider visiting the exhibition, it will remain on view until Sep. 1, 2024 at Culture Lab LIC, 5-25 46th Avenue, Long Island City, NY.

Curated by Tess Howsam and Sona Jakubove, the exhibition reflects an international collaboration between arts and cultural institutions, Culture Lab LIC and Malý Berlín. Project was supported by our Consulate and Fond na podporu umenia.

Presented by the +421 Foundation in collaboration with Atelier71 Slovakia ,Slovak-American Cultural Center , and Global Slovakia.

On September 14, 2024, at 6 pm, witness a stunning showcase of sustainable fashion from the renowned David Demovic and Monika Lacekova at the Angel Orensanz Foundation. This year’s runway will feature innovative waste-to-fashion designs during Couture Fashion Week's 40th season.

Plus, we’ll introduce the Slovak Settlers book by Dr. Zuzana Palovic and Dr. Gabriela Bereghazyova, exploring the compelling stories of Slovak emigration.

Don't miss this unforgettable event under the auspices of the Slovak General Consulate in New York!

Our Consulate is proudly supporting yet another unique concert presenting Slovak musical talent together with US world-class performers. This time with five-time Grammy Award-winner and one of the leading figures in contemporary jazz and world music Esperanza Spalding.

Preceded by one of the promising Slovak musical exports - Alan Bartuš, recent semifinalist of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition, with his star trio featuring jazz legends Robert Hurst and Jeff "Tain" Watts.

And last but not least, thirteen-year old Slovak prodigy and future star bassist Aron Hodek joined by his brother David Hodek on drums and stylistic and genre chameleon James Francies on piano.

Huge congratulations to Jozef Rajchl Xtremerun and Lubos Krsiak for successfully completing this charity run across the U.S. Conquering the distance of over 5,000 km from San Francisco to New York City makes him the first Slovak national to do so.

🏃‍♂️ Exciting News! Join us in support of ultramarathon runner Jozef Rajchl and his incredible charity run across the USA, starting from San Francisco all the way to New York City! 🌟

Jozef, alongside support member Lubos Krsiak, is running to raise awareness and funds for parkinson's research. Their journey is not just about miles, but about making a meaningful impact in communities across the country.

Sharing few photo moments from the opening of The Search For Utopia - a group exhibiton of works by Slovak and American artists and collaboration between cultural centers Culture Lab LIC and Malý Berlín that took place last Saturday.

This past weekend celebration of Czech and Slovak heritage at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden was a full house! Thanks to all who made this beautiful event possible and especially and specifically to all the performers showcasing their talent and passion for Slovak and Czech culture and traditions.
