“What do judo and e-sports have in common? Admittedly, it’s not a question that would be commonly asked. They aren’t two activities that would normally be put together in the same sentence. However, there is something that they do share: technology and experience. Judo does have a connection with E-sports if you read more.”

The theme for World Judo Day 2024 is WELLBEING
“every single judoka on this planet can implement a variety of actions that address different aspects of health and wellness, from physical, mental and emotional perspectives”.

“Travis Stevens, a sixth degree black belt in judo and first degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, believes the future of judo in America is bleak unless major changes are made. The Olympic silver medalist and three-time Pan Am champion painted a concerning picture of the state of the sport during his recent appearance on the BJJ Fanatics podcast.”
“According to Stevens, the biggest issue facing US judo is the lack of career opportunities for young athletes, especially when compared to the booming Brazilian jiu-jitsu scene. “There’s no future, there’s no outcome for people,” he lamented. “They’re struggling to stick around” in the sport.”

“Judo legend Jimmy Pedro, the four-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medalist shared his insights on the greatness of American champions like Kayla Harrison and Travis Stevens. When asked about the possibility of Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo, taking on former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in a judo match, Pedro didn’t hesitate to give his prediction.
“I’d put my money on Kayla unless he’s [Khabib] at a really high level of judo,” said Pedro. “If he’s not at that level of judo, a brown belt or not a high-level judo player, she will win.”
According to Pedro, Harrison’s dominance of even the top American male judoka is a testament to her skillset. “I’ve seen her smash all of them in judo. She’s not going to do that to a Travis Stevens, she’s not going to do that to a senior national champion or Olympian in our sport. But she will go toe-to-toe with every other male black belt.”

Our condolences to Rick's family, friends, fellow judo referees and all who knew him.
Sometimes we need a little reset when we are overstimulated, overwhelmed, and overtired . This advice helps. Trust me it works.
