🎨We hope you are having a great ! To kick off this week we want to update you on our progress on the CITYarts Peace Wall in New Haven, Connecticut.

⭐CITYarts is collaborating with artist Mitchell Rembert to paint a mural on the wall of the Fair Haven Library at 180 Grand Ave. in New Haven as part of the CITYarts 50 States of Peace Initiative. CITYarts worked with Creative Arts Workshop to host workshops where students created 6”x6” works answering the question “What does peace look like to me?” under the guidance of community artist Mitchell Rembert and Yale MFA artist Lauren Flaaen. These drawings inspired the design of the CITYarts Peace Wall. On August 14th, artists Mitchell Rebmert and Perez guided local youth as they began the painting process. We also welcomed several journalists who came to cover our work.

🌈We are grateful to all of our collaborators in this project, including Creative Arts Workshop and their Director Trina Learned, Yale School of Art and their Dean Kymberly Pinder, and our community partner Lee Cruz. We would also like to thank everyone who has helped to support this project through our GoFundMe campaign. You can donate here: https://buff.ly/4fOXZSx

🤩 Janelle Frese was recently interviewed by CanvasRebel and shared that "The most meaningful project I have worked on to date is the CITYarts Peace Wall at Gilbert High School in Anaheim." Read the full interview here: https://buff.ly/3AoyO9b

👩‍🎨 Happy 🌟! In 2000, CITYarts honored the remarkable Susan Sarandon, actress and activist, by naming her our Lady of Justice. This collaboration provided a platform for creativity and leadership, inspiring the next generation to become positive forces in their communities and to engage with the democratic justice system. 🏛️✨ The mural remains a testament to their collective effort and commitment to justice.

Last year, CITYarts was able to work with local artists, youth, as well with District 16 City Council member, Althea Stevens, to create a mural on the Shakespeare Stairs. The mural was created through the ideas of youth from local schools in the Bronx including Fordham High school for the Arts, PS 011, PS 114X, Highbridge Green School, Bronxworks , Children’s Art and Science Workshop , and Children’s Aid, who participated in CITYart’s workshop in the past. The iconic Shakespeare Stairs made its debut on the blockbuster film, “Joker” in 2019 which then became a popular photo spot for tourist and film buffs from around the world. The staircase mural helped share the identity of the Bronx Neighborhood and embrace the unique culture of the Bronx. 🌏

We invite you all to participate in the repainting of the Shakespeare Stairs mural! To learn more on how to participant, visit us at https://buff.ly/3zHDBlx for more information 🎨
