The Sidney Hillman Foundation honors excellence in journalism in service of the common good. Hillman Prizes, Sidney Awards, and Sidney's Picks.

Our awards and programs honor the legacy and vision of union pioneer and New Deal architect Sidney Hillman. Since 1950, we have honored journalists, writers and public figures whose work fosters social and economic justice. Our Story

Since 1950, we have honored journalists, writers and public figures whose work fosters social and economic justice. Our awards and programs honor the legacy and vision of union pioneer and New Deal architect Sidney Hillman.

The prestigious annual U.S Hillman Prizes are presented in six categories: book, magazine, newspaper, broadcast, web, and opinion & analysis. The monthly Sidney Award goes to an outstanding piece of investigative, deeply reported journalism published that month in any medium.

In 2011, the foundation inaugurated the Canadian Hillman Prize which is awarded each year in Toronto.

The Sol Stetin Award for Labor History was established in 2007 after the death of Sol Stetin, former president of the Textile Workers Union of America who spearheaded the campaigns to organize southern textile workers, and founded the American Labor Museum.

The George Barrett Award for Public Interest Law, which goes to an attorney who works on behalf of people without money or power, was inaugurated in 2015.
