Happy Thursday! Today, we want to share one of our Fellows, Rachel’s, culture and a meaningful dish: miyeok guk! This Korean seaweed soup is served for multiple occasions, ranging from birthdays to acting as a simple side dish. Swipe to learn more about Rachel and miyeok guk!
Happy Monday! Last week, we welcomed back Don Kao, who led The Boat Exercise with our Fellows. Our Fellows engaged in eye-opening conversation that ultimately helped them gain an increased self-awareness and understanding of biases, discrimination, why they persist, and overall new perspectives.
What a great night - thank you, Don!
Happy ! Last night, we welcomed our new Fellows for their first skillbuilding workshop: Understanding Ourselves and Others, where they learned to identify their leadership style and current perceptions of diverse people and communities. In the end, our teens felt inspired as they learned more about the diverse identities and perspectives in the room: from salutations, to languages spoken, clothing, holidays celebrated, and more.
Happy ! We know that life can get very busy and unexpectedly throw things at us. With that being said, sometimes we all need extra encouragement to keep going: whether it is for school, self-discovery, and more.
Thank you to Mastercard for hosting an exclusive Career Day for our teens last month and moderating a panel that allowed our students to broaden their horizons and encouraged them to explore the world of possibilities! What made this day even more special was having our very own students use their voices as they participated in focus groups for product development. Thank you, Mastercard!
Today marks the anniversary of 9/11, one of the most tragic moments in history. Today, we commemorate the lives that were lost during the attacks that occurred 23 years ago. We encourage you all to stop by the 9/11 Memorial Museum in World Trade Center to learn more about this day, folks’ personal narratives and how they were shaped by this event, and experience small reminders/pockets of hope.
Happy ! The great thing about books is that they can serve as a tool to inspire, educate, and entertain. It’s the perfect way to wind down and end the week. We invite you all to locate your favorite book or author, or try out a new one, and do some reading.
Woohoo! We hosted our overnight orientation retreat welcoming our new Fellows and returning Bridgers. The last two days were spent full of activities, thoughtful dialogue, bonding, and of course: new memories. Stay tuned as we kick off a new program year!

Happy from YouthBridge! For this month, we wanted to highlight small businesses (many of which are q***r owned) that are sustainably and ethically making pride merchandise. It's important to support brands with similar values to yourself. Another great alternative to shopping sustainably is making your own clothing! Comment down below if you've heard of any of these brands!

Our Story
Each year, YouthBridge-NY selects outstanding high school students from a variety of religious, ethnic, and racial communities across New York City. The two-year fellowship is focused on training participants to be diversity leaders and community builders by giving them the skills, training, and experience needed to be thoughtful, impactful leaders.
Fellowship participants take part in:
- Skill-building and leadership development sessions
- Field trips and tours of local organizations, corporations, and museums
- Internship opportunities
- Hands-on experiences with local community-based agencies
- Community service projects
-And more!
YouthBridge-NY’s unique focus on diversity has a special impact on our students that continues long after they leave our workshops:
“ I live in Harlem, a neighborhood where everyone knows everyone, when I came to YouthBridge, it was like these doors opened up to a world with endless opportunities. I came from a middle school where people like me were the majority, then transitioned to a high school where I was the minority; it wasn't an easy transition...but the moment I joined YouthBridge, I knew there had to be change. I helped organize student councils, town halls, forums, a place where everyone can share their grievances and trust each other... Youth bridge gave me skills, inspiration and hope.” - Hawa D. Class of ‘16
“Before YouthBridge there were many things I wasn’t open to and simply didn’t know. However from the first meeting I was eager to let YouthBridge make a change in me and open my eyes. As I became friends with my peers I learned that yes, people may be different than me through culture, race, religion, sexuality, but by listening to them, the struggles they go through, the circumstances they’ve overcome, dreams they have, their talents, the way they want to drive our generation in a better direction, it made me realize that at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what you were taught at home, because we are all the same.” - Celine A. Class of ‘16
