Isa Jamira (Moise) ’15 is the founder of Liberated Lands, an educational organization that teaches individuals how to care for themselves through taking care of the earth. A few years ago, around the time she created Liberated Lands, Isa spoke to our Middle Division students about her life as an artist, activist, farmer, and educator. Since then, Isa has continued to grow the organization in exciting ways!

Sheldon Gilbert ’93, founder of Kura Labs, is featured in the new documentary “Black Table,” which looks at the experiences of Black students in Yale University’s Class of 1997 (the school’s largest class of Black students at the time). The vivid retellings of the interviewees' time at Yale are artfully tied into the current-day effects of the Supreme Court’s 2023 decision to abolish affirmative action, making the documentary a must-see!

Laurie Hornik ‘86 recently had her collage featured in “Collage to the Rescue.” The book includes a compilation of collages by various artists and half of the profits are donated to non-profit rescue organizations!

Margot Penn ‘11 and Arlinda Hasandjekaj ‘11 traveled to Peru this summer where they sampled local cuisine, explored cities, and (most excitingly) climbed Machu Picchu⛰️🥾

Sarah Seltzer ’01 has published her first book, The Singer Sisters, which is being released by Macmillan this summer!

The publisher’s website writes that “two generations of a folk-rock dynasty collide over art, love, longing, and family secrets in this captivating and poignant debut.”

For the 21st consecutive year, the HM Alumni Association is hosting a benefit to raise money for the Student Lunch Initiative, which covers the cost of school meals for students in Grades 6 through 12 who receive financial aid. The event takes place on Thursday, May 2nd from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Paul Neuthaler ’60 shared this photo, taken in 1954, when the Class of 1960 was in the “First Form,” and included a moving remembrance: “Almost 70 years ago, most of us sat for this iconic portrait before Tillinghast Hall on the last Monday in November (don't ask how I remember the date, but I do). During the next few years, other young men of perceived promise would join us; a few would depart. And here we are: 80 years old or more, many children and multiple grandchildren later. We email about critical issues and many send family photos. Guilty as charged! Safe to say not one of our teachers remains... but here's the thing: HM continues stronger than ever because we and so many other graduates before and after us understand its unique place in our development and in our hearts. We send our children and grandchildren and sometimes our money. How lucky were we to have Horace Mann in our lives!"

It's that time of year again! The Horace Mann School Alumni Association invites alumni, parents, and friends to the 21st Annual Alumni Benefit for the Student Lunch Initiative on May 2nd from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Monterey.

All proceeds support the Student Lunch Initiative, an important aspect of the school’s financial aid program that provides qualified students with prepaid school meals, ensuring proper nutrition and helping to ease the economic burden on families. The program assists approximately 190 students in Grades 6 through 12 who receive financial aid.
