Grade 7 was recently visited by author, visual artist, designer, and musician, Tae Won Yu! As an author-in-residence, he spent two days guiding them through the research and discovery process. On day 1, students created collages inspired by Tae’s Antiquarian Sticker Book series. Students were encouraged to let loose, with the goal of releasing perfectionism and letting their creativity flow. For their final collages, students were more measured and thoughtful, using their creations from the previous day as well as vintage ephemera, historical printings, and scans of archival Sacred Heart yearbooks!

We mourn the loss of Angela Bayo, RSCJ, who was cherished throughout the 91st Street community as an extraordinary educator, mentor, and leader. Serving first as Head of Lower School and then as the Lower School’s religious education consultant, she touched the lives of thousands of children and adults during her 46 years of service at 91st Street and beyond. She was renowned for her eloquence and elegance, her grace and her faith in God and love. She was, in the words of many former students, “part of what makes Sacred Heart, Sacred Heart.”
Services will be held Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church in Schenectady, NY. To access the live stream or read more about Sr. Bayo, please click on the link below. Ninety-first Street will host a memorial service and reception honoring Sr. Bayo the afternoon of Friday, October 18, 2024.

Students wowed parents with this year’s STREAM presentations! These interdisciplinary projects combine science, technology, research, religion, engineering, visual & performing arts, music, and math.
Kindergartners shared their project on “The Three Little Pigs,” where they built houses using different materials and tested their durability. Grade 1 learned about birds, created bird puppets, and engineered birdhouses. Grade 2 created dioramas of animal habitats, researched their assigned animals’ biomes and food webs, and coded Ozobots to display their knowledge. Grade 3 took on the important topic of climate change, each researching and presenting on their own country. Bravo students and the STREAM Team!
