This is too important not to share with my riding world friends. A stiff ankle joint can cause twisting of your hips, typically with the hip on the side of a stiff ankle being forced backwards, especially when in a 2-point position. Another frequent issue related to a stiff ankle, especially a painful one, is a lateral shift to the opposite side, resulting in overweighting of that stirrup and obvious underweighting of the stiff ankle side. This typically results in the usual lost stirrup. We can determine quickly if this is your problem with an off horse biomechanical rider assessment, including our unique dual scale evaluation.

Once we determine if this is the issue or not, corrective exercises will be given and hands on joint mobilization and myofascial release will be used to correct and improve the stiff ankle.
