TMS Global

TMS Global exists to mobilize and deploy the body of Christ globally to join Jesus in His mission, especially among the least-reached peoples.

We are a Christian nonprofit organization that trains, mobilizes, and serves cross-cultural workers and churches in the US and around the world. We currently support more than 140 cross-cultural workers who minister in more than 35 nations worldwide. We also partner with churches in an effort to help them realize and grasp their potential to have an impact locally, nationally, and internationally.

In May, TMS Global cross-cultural witnesses (CCWs), Billy and Laurie Drum, received a call. A church had been caring for 18 Ukrainian children who were orphans, but now needed to evacuate them. People in the community reached out to the Drums knowing they could help. Billy and Laurie went to bed praying that the funds would come. God answered those prayers through partners like you.

As we celebrate freedom on Juneteenth, we pray for God to lead us further into his promise of freedom. May we follow in the ways of Jesus: proclaiming freedom for the captives and setting the oppressed free.

“It’s Saturday night in a midwestern city in the United States. A group of people is meeting for a Jesus-centered worship gathering. But you won’t find pews or hymnals here. Nor will you hear the latest English praise songs.”

No matter where they serve, rural towns in the United States or populated cities in South Asia, cross-cultural witnesses (CCWs) must practice contextualization: communicating the gospel in a way that makes sense to people within their own culture. In this example, a TMS Global CCW practices contextualization by hosting a diverse worship gathering in a form that is common in South Asian culture. Furthermore deepening our belief that God is working in all cultures and speaking to all people.

“As we live in the multiple tensions of being Asian American Christians, we can discover who we are and what God may have in store for us and our communities.”

In the book, Learning Our Names, a group of authors from East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian backgrounds and perspectives explore what it means to learn our names and be seen by God. A very timely book to add to your list for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

At the end of April, we celebrated the ministry of Max Wilkins as he retired from TMS Global with over 10 years of service as President & CEO. We are grateful to have been lead and taught by him.

On his time at TMS Global, Max shared: “I am grateful that the Lord has so often chosen to demonstrate His presence and power with us through the faithful support of literally tens of thousands of devoted disciples who have partnered with us in this work. Through the prayers, words of encouragement, sacrificial financial support, and service of these saints, the kingdom has been advancing to the glory of God.”

Max’s impact is sown into the fabric of TMS Global and will be felt for years and years to come. I you’d like to join us in honoring his service, go to https://www.tms-global.org/honor-max

Hot take alert 🚨 Training is more than memorized scripture and good theology. TMS Global trains each of our cross-cultural workers to learn from those in their new community, embrace many of their customs, and to look for the ways Jesus is already at work in the culture.

Happy International Women’s Day! It’s estimated that 80% of single cross-cultural workers are women. We are grateful for the ways women are uniquely called by God to join in His mission around the world.

Richard Allen was the founder and first bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The denomination was born in 1816 when Richard called together African American congregations of the previously formed Methodist Episcopal Church in hopes of escaping racial discrimination. The AME Church was the first African American denomination organized in the United States, and has persistently been a leading voice in the fight for civil and human rights.

This would not be possible without people like you who support our mission to train, mobilize, and serve cross-culturally. Thank you for joining us in the mission of God around the world!

Mary McLeod Bethune was a champion of racial and gender equality. In 1904, she opened a boarding school for Black women, which eventually became Bethune-Cookman College in 1929. She set education standards for today's Black colleges and laid the foundation to the modern civil rights movement. Her role as an advisor to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt paved the way for African Americans in government.

In 1780, Lott Carey was born into slavery in Virginia. His owner hired him out as a laborer at a to***co warehouse in Richmond, where he was able to save extra money to buy freedom for himself and his two children. In 1821, Carey’s growing desire to leave the US to minister in Africa lead him to Liberia. In Liberia, Carey met physical, emotional, and spiritual needs as he provided jobs for workers, built bridges between local African peoples and American settlers, prioritized education for children, and offered medical care. In these ways, he practiced incarnational ministry, and offers us an exceptional example of how missions can be from everywhere to everywhere.
