The Western Tidewater Free Clinic has been able to expand its dental care practice and see additional patients in bright new spaces, thanks in part to a grant from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.

Dance and educational programs from the Tidewater African Cultural Alliance help young people find confidence. A recent grant from the Foundation will allow the Alliance to expand its Youth African Dance program to two schools in Virginia Beach.
In addition to serving as the largest provider of grants and scholarships in the region, our Foundation provides advice and assistance to nonprofits, including through the Academy of Nonprofit Excellence at Tidewater Community College. This year, two of the first participants in Shark City Drum and Dance Corps. graduated from college with music degrees, and the group sent seven high school seniors on their way to the world. The Hampton Roads Community Foundation proudly supports Shark City Drums with grant funding to teach the basics of music, drums and dance. A recent grant will help Shark City to expand its beginning, intermediate, and advanced drum classes.

Latinos en Virginia Empowerment Center is the first agency in the state to provide around the clock access to bilingual and bicultural trained advocates for families affected by violence. A 2022 grant and continued support from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s Sue Cook Winfrey Fund allowed the Latinos In Virginia Empowerment Center to expand its services.

Organizations that received grants in June 2024 included Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation, Life Enrichment Center of Norfolk, Community Outreach Coalition, and Sandler Center for the Performing Arts Foundation.
