Carter G. Woodson is an inspirational figure worthy of recognition this Black History Month. Born in 1875, he was a prominent African American historian, author, journalist, and leader. He believed education was key to racial progress.
Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) in 1915 to promote black history and research into race relations. He fought to ensure African Americans were included in school curriculums.
His efforts resulted in the second week of February being designated as "Negro History Week," which later evolved into Black History Month. Thanks to Woodson's tireless dedication, we celebrate black history every February.
We honor his legacy along with that of those who fought against racism and inequality throughout our nation's history. We encourage everyone to continue his legacy by advocating for racial progress.
Presidents' Day is a day for everyone to reflect on how far our nation has come and honor those who helped make it possible.
It's also a reminder that no matter how challenging life may seem, together, we can always find solutions to benefit everyone.
Shirley Ann Jackson is an inspirational African American scientist, physicist, and university president. This Black History Month, we recognize this woman who broke barriers in a male-dominated field.
In 1973, Jackson became the first African American woman to obtain a doctorate from MIT in nuclear physics, making her a trailblazer for women in STEM fields. This is just one of her many remarkable achievements.
In 1995, she assumed the role of president at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, overseeing its transformation into an internationally recognized research university with groundbreaking technological advancements.
Since then, Jackson has served on multiple advisory boards and committees to promote scientific research and engineering excellence. Her tireless advocacy for equal opportunities in STEM serves as an inspiration to all.

Shirley Chisholm, a civil rights activist and politician, was one of the most inspiring voices of her generation. As the first African American woman elected to Congress in 1968, she brought attention to issues impacting minorities.
Throughout her career as an elected official, Chisholm fought for civil rights using her platform. In 1972, she made history again as the first major-party African American candidate for President of the United States.
Chisholm's determination and courage were unparalleled. She refused to be silenced or intimidated by those who tried to keep her from becoming a groundbreaking political leader. Today, we celebrate her accomplishments.

Percy Julian was a revolutionary chemist whose pioneering work in organic chemistry and medicine profoundly impacted society. He was one of the first African Americans to receive a doctorate in chemistry.
He was also the first African-American chemist inducted into the National Academy of Sciences and the second African-American scientist, after David Blackwell, from any field.
Julian's scientific achievements were no small feat. He was born into poverty and racial segregation in Alabama. Despite the odds, he excelled academically and became one of the leading scientists of his time.
His discoveries included isolating hormones from soybeans, which led to treatments for glaucoma. He also developed synthetic cortisone used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. These breakthroughs revolutionized healthcare forever.

February is a time to celebrate the contributions of African Americans to our society. This year, we recognize the achievements of Alan Emtage, a technology and computer science pioneer, who enabled millions around the world to access information quickly and effectively.
Emtage is known as the inventor of Archie, the first internet search engine. Before Archie's invention in 1990, searching for content on the internet was a tedious, often unsuccessful process. Retrieving documents from servers around the world took far too long.
With his creation, Emtage opened up a new world of possibilities by making it easy for anybody with an internet connection to find what they were looking for in seconds.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the life of Rosa Parks, a symbol of courage and resilience for many generations. Parks is known for her refusal to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, AL, in 1955.
This act of civil disobedience inspired the Montgomery Bus Boycott and sparked the Civil Rights Movement. Her bravery in standing up to injustice encouraged others to do the same, inspiring a wave of protests across the US.
Parks' legacy continues today as we commemorate her actions this Black History Month. She inspired millions who recognize how it is our responsibility to stand up against oppression wherever it appears.
Nearly 70 years after she refused to move on that fateful day in December 1955, her spirit lives on as we continue fighting for justice and equality around the world.
Digitunity's Sr. Director of Strategy & Development, Susan Krautbauer, will be participating in a panel hosted by the Reverse Logistics Association (RLA) entitled "Nonprofits as a Reverse Logistics Solution" at 5 PM PST on February 8th.
This panel aims to explore how nonprofit ITAD providers, refurbishers, and recyclers are viable options for achieving quality service delivery and organizational ESG objectives.
