Today, Hadassah led 60 organizations including the Hadassah Foundation, JWI, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) and the ADL in a letter to the UN demanding an independent investigation into the documented evidence of Hamas’ r**e, mutilation, and gender-based violence against Israeli women and girls.

Hadassah leaders demand the International Committee of the Red Cross immediately visit all hostages abducted from Israel by Hamas and held in Gaza. There is no justification for leaving them to languish without the care and intervention afforded to all detainees around the world by the Red Cross.

From one humanitarian organization to another, we implore you to fulfill your stated mission. Visit the hostages; ensure that they are held in tolerable conditions; put an end to their physical, sexual and emotional abuse; transfer them much-needed medication and food; and put them in contact with their families.

"We awoke on Shabbat and Simchat Torah to the shocking, terrifying news that Israel is under deadly attack by Hamas and the country has declared it is at war. At least 100 people have been killed, with casualties expected to rise. May their memories be a blessing. Hundreds of people have been critically injured, and the Hadassah Medical Organization is already treating many wounded from around the country. We are also in touch with our youth villages, which are supporting their students, staff and families and are standing by to take in students and families from the south.

Exactly 50 years to the day of the surprise attack by Egyptian and Syrian forces that began the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel again defends its sovereignty.

We are praying for the safety of our Hadassah family, our loved ones, those who have been wounded and everyone in our beloved Israel. May peace come soon. We stand with Israel," said Hadassah National President Rhoda Smolow and CEO Naomi Adler in a statement this morning.
