There are many ways to modify - leave your knees bent (pictured) to protect your lower back, or reach them out for challenge. Lower your head if your neck needs a rest. Roll up higher to get deeper into those upper abs!

Standing work with the Reformer not only benefits hip strength, it improves balance. As you move the carriage, the spring tension changes, and your body constantly has to recalibrate to maintain form. Balance work is great at injury prevention - we like to say it makes your body smarter! 💪🤓

If you're a cyclist, you spend a lot of your active time with your hips creased and knees bent. Finding your core strength with the hips more open and knees more extended not only is a unique challenge, it's great for your back!

One tenet of Pilates is spinal mechanics - in each class, you'll safely move your spine in all directions AND work on spinal articulation, a practice which lubricates the spine and helps to hydrate our spinal discs. You may even notice you have to adjust your rear-view mirror when you drive away from class - you'll be sitting taller!

Hips, knees, and ankles, oh my!
Pilates excels at seeing and treating the body as a whole. For example - knee pain often doesn’t originate in the knee, but comes from weakness in the hips or lack of mobility in the ankle. Your Pilates instructor can assess and help you find balance to relieve pain.
Grab your foam roller for a quick spinal mobility exercise that feels oh-so-delicous!
Joseph Pilates felt that physical fitness was the cornerstone of health, and his exercises were designed to help people maintain health in the demands of modern society - back in the 1920s!
While he may not have known how computers and cell phones would affect the body, his thought process applies today. Join us in class for our “anti-computer” exercises, and feel taller and less scrunched when you leave!

In class, we use the foam roller & massage balls to show clients how to perform myofascial releases on their own.
