ARROWHEAD MARSH BIG DAY OF BIRDING NOVEMBER 5TH
9:00 A.M.
Sunday, November 5th, 2023 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Come join us for High Adventure's first birding event. The event will be conducted by member Randy Arnold
We'll be birding from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 AM. We'll post all our bird sightings on the eBird app. I have this app. We'll be citizen scientist providing information to Cornell University on bird populations and their migration. Bring your binoculars
This will be a great opportunity to enjoy some of our fall migrants on their way south. Many birds actually over-winter on San Francisco Bay. Our winter climate is so mild that we all know what a great place it is including many birds.
Next to the commercial bustle of Oakland International Airport is a 741-acre park leased from the Port of Oakland, protecting the remainder of a once-extensive marshland at San Leandro Bay
At the intersection of Doolittle Drive and Swan Way is the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Grove, completed with community support and dedicated in 1993. The grove consists of a group of trees surrounding a grassy glade. There is also a brick wall inscribed with donors' names.

On Thursday October 12, 2023, as part of the Peralta District of the Golden Gate Area Council of Scouting, Harold Lowe was presented with the Cliff Dochterman Award. The award is presenting jointly by Rotary and Scouting to recognize an individual’s outstanding service to youth though volunteer work in both Rotary and Scouting. In addition to serving on the Board of Oakland Rotary, as a Trustee of the Oakland Rotary Endowment, Harold is in his 4th year as Chair of the Enterprise Institute. In Scouting Harold serves as the Peralta District Commissioner, one of the key 3 leaders for Scouting in Oakland and Emeryville. He also serves as the Scout Master for Troop 97, Cub Master for Pack 97 and an Advisor to Girls Troop 2097. Both Rotary and Scouting are committed to community service (Do a Good Turn Daily and Service Above Self), as well as developing individuals of high moral character (the Scout Oath and Law and the 4 Way Test).
As a youth, Harold was active in Scouting and was one of the first youth participants in the Enterprise Institute 38 years ago. Harold was surprised to receive the award that night; we can’t imagine a more deserving recipient who lives both organizations’ values daily. Congratulations Harold for a well-earned honor! 👏👏‼️
