advocate and health services professional Hector Montesino has lost many family members to Alzheimer’s, including his beloved grandmother who was “vibrant, loving and a fantastic cook.” Many of Hector’s family members immigrated from the Dominican Republic where they had limited access to education, making navigating diagnosis and care a challenge.

Hector hopes more Latinx community members join him in becoming a volunteer to increase representation in Alzheimer’s and dementia research and care and support outreach. Hector says he has “seen the disease ravage families and knows how much support is needed.” We are so grateful to Hector and all those taking action to strengthen the health of their communities and to fight Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
