Statistic 1: Did you know? Since the 1950s, we have produced nearly 8.3 billion tons of plastic. That's the same weight as a billion elephants or 47 million blue whales! 🐘 🐋 Talk about a heavy weight on the planet. This plastic pollutes our oceans, harms wildlife, and strains our resources, but we can help reduce it! Initiatives like Clean the World's Global Hospitality Recycling Program help offset the impacts of plastic production by working with incredible hotel partners to divert plastic and soap from landfills. Source: Greenpeace

Statistic 2: Every year, only a mere 9% of the plastic produced is recycled. ♻️ This means that most of the plastic we use in our daily lives ends up in landfills or our environment. While some may view single-use plastic as a convenient and cheap resource, our planet pays a hefty price. This Plastic-Free July, ditch the disposables and opt for everyday reusable options like water bottles and shopping bags! Source: Our World in Data

Statistic 3: In 2019, we produced a whopping 495.75 million tons of plastic! This sheer amount of plastic is overflowing our landfills, and with plastic taking over 100 years to decompose, the consequences are long-lasting. But it's not too late to make a difference! Let's work together to reduce plastic waste and create a more sustainable future.

🌿 Sustainability in Hospitality: A recent survey conducted by Clean the World highlights that guests expectations vs. hotel practices do not match when it comes to their sustainability initiatives. 88% of travelers factor sustainability into their hotel booking decisions, yet 58.7% believe hotels do little to nothing to recycle bathroom amenities. Guests can be reassured that when they stay at a Clean the World Global Hospitality Recycling Program Partner Hotel, both soap and plastic amenities are fully diverted from landfills. ♻️

Since 2009, Clean the World has diverted over 9 million lbs (over 4 million kg) of plastic from landfills with the help of our dedicated hospitality partners. ♻️ Reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills is crucial for lowering greenhouse gas emissions and preventing pollution. When plastic sits in landfills to decompose, it produces methane that is released into the air and harmful chemicals that seep into the soil, damaging the surrounding environment.

Did you know that over 8,300 hotels around the world partner with Clean the World to prevent their plastic bottled amenities, such as shampoo bottles, lotion, and body wash from turning into waste? 🌍 This incredible network of sustainability-driven hotel partners keeps tons of plastic out of landfills, reduces pollution, and conserves valuable resources. Statistic 1: Did you know that almost HALF of all plastic used globally gets buried in landfills each year? 49% of plastic, to be exact. Landfills are often a necessary resource for collecting waste, but we can reduce the amount of plastic taking up s**ce in landfills by choosing reusable options over single-use plastics. This Plastic-Free Month, let's all explore how we can reduce plastic waste!
Source: Our World in Data https://hubs.la/Q02FjMr-0

Statistic 2: Europe is a champion at recycling waste, but 44% of plastic still finds its way into landfills every year. Plastic in landfills doesn't just take up s**ce—it harms the environment and communities surrounding it. By choosing alternatives to single-use plastics and supporting sustainable initiatives like Clean the World's Global Hospitality Recycling Program, we can give plastics a second life!
Source: Our World in Data https://hubs.la/Q02FjMr-0

Statistic 3: In 2019 alone, a staggering 86% of plastic used in the US went straight to landfills! WHY DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MATTERS
Emergencies, natural disasters, and unexpected challenges can strike at any moment🌀🌪️. Being prepared means having the knowledge, resources, and plans in place to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community. While we can’t always predict what disasters will come our way, we can prepare for them.

Our "sister" organization, The WASH Foundation partners with organizations on the ground to help provide affected communities with hygiene supplies, access to clean water, and additional essential supplies.Through The WASH Foundation’s Global Emergencies Program, we work with communities to prepare for and mitigate the impact of disasters whenever we can. In emergent situations and as a method of prevention and control, we must prioritize proper water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). At The WASH Foundation, we always aim to provide immediate assistance when an emergency hits.
