📢 Exciting Announcement from CHC! 📢

We are thrilled to share that low-income families and youth in Santa Clara County District Five who receive mental health services through CHC will soon get a boost of support! Thanks to a 2024-25 budget initiative championed by County Supervisor Joe Simitian, CHC will use grant funding to address food insecurity and other basic needs. 🌟

“It’s hard enough for young people to reach out for mental health services and support when they need it,” said Simitian. “But when folks don’t have access to reliable transportation to get to their provider, or need to prioritize finding food or shelter to survive over going to their appointments, that only makes it harder to get them the help they deserve. I expect these funds will help provide folks with some additional stability as they get support through CHC.”

This initiative will help our clients focus on their treatment goals without the added stress of meeting their basic needs. We're grateful for this support and excited to see the positive impact it will bring to our community. 💙

Early friendships play a key role in social and emotional development. They help reduce stress and foster a sense of belonging. However, they also come with challenges. Kids often need to adapt to new environments, navigate deeper emotional connections, and cope with the negative impacts of not having friends on their mental health. 👋Hello families! As we endure this heat wave and continue with fun sun activities, we’d like to share a couple of tips regarding heat stroke or heat exhaustion. ☀️

Now entering zero gravity! 🚀

-
Our Esther B. Clark Schools are combining fun with a little science this summer! In an earlier class project, students learned the different gravitational pulls of various planets in our solar system. After calculating how far they were able to jump on Earth, they measured how far they’d be able to jump on other planets! 🌎

Fourth of July celebrations bring barbecues, fun with family and friends, and fireworks. Sounds great, right? Not always. The chaos of these activities can be overstimulating for people with sensory sensitivities, such as children with ADHD or autism. How to help?

- Location matters. If you're going to be at a busy party, ensure a retreat option for your child, like a home with a view and a quiet room for breaks.

-Preparation is key. Use themed books and videos, incorporating your child's interests, to build excitement and set expectations for fireworks.

-Bring helpful supplies: sensory or fidget toys, art supplies, favorite activities, and plenty of familiar snacks and drinks. For noise sensitivity, consider bringing headphones or noise-filtering earbuds that lower the volume of a child's environment but still allow them to engage with others.
