This morning, our juniors in AP Art History had the privilege of meeting with France White, SHCJ, at Mayfield Junior School to learn about the San Damiano Crucifix she hand-painted for the newly renovated chapel at MJS.
Sr. France shared her inspiration for the crucifix, explaining that she chose to paint a resurrection cross in the style of the medieval crucifix that spoke to young St. Francis of Assisi. She also highlighted new faces she added to incorporate saints important to Cornelia Connelly and also represent the diverse student body of Mayfield Junior School.
We also had the opportunity to enjoy the stained-glass window of Cornelia Connely and MJS children designed by Patty Wickman ‘77.
Thank you to Sr. France and MJS for hosting us and to Julia S. ‘25 for showing us around your alma mater.
