NPO for women in labor was established because of the historical use of general anesthesia for c-sections, which increased the likelihood of stomach contents aspiration. Due to technology, including spinal anesthesia and airway protection with intubation, the incidence of aspiration is less than one in a million 😘

Pitocin is used to induce labor. Speeds up the labor time actually. The doctors and nurses will NOT inform you what it actually does. This drug alone is associated with waaaay too many complications! It impairs the function of the placenta, increases fetal distress, hypersystole (increase in contractions), postpartum hemorrhaging, jaundice and more 😩 IF you can help it, please educate yourself or book a doula ❤️
