While parenting in the digital age can be overwhelming, it is absolutely possible to encourage healthy digital use in your family. A few ways to accomplish this include:
1. Screens, including phones, tablets, and tvs, should remain outside of bedrooms, and this is true for children and adults. Doing so promotes healthier sleep habits and quality.
2. Establish consistent "screens off" times, such as during family time and meal times. For busy families, instead of using screens in the car, use that time to talk and connect.
3. Parents need to practice what they preach. Model good behavior by putting your phone away and practicing presence with your children and teens.
While these changes may bring resistance at first, you will be surprised what they yield in mood, sleep, behavior, and connection!
Does screen use really impact our thinking skills? Our analysis suggests it could A meta-analysis of 34 studies has explored how disordered screen use may impact the cognitive performance of individuals.

Mental Health Update: A new medication, Zurzuvae (zuranolone) has been approved for the FDA for the treatment of severe postpartum depression. Here are a few things to know:
1. Unlike traditional SSRIs, this medication functions like a neurosteroid. As a result, positive improvement was seen in less time than more traditional medications (14 days vs. 4-6 weeks).
2. The study group included only women who were not breastfeeding, so it's safety for nursing mothers and their infants has not yet been determined.
3. Research consistently shows that best outcomes are seen with a combination of medication and counseling.
