Cute patients of the week! It’s especially rewarding to see beautiful healthy puppies when you have been involved in everything from the breeding to the delivery. Thank you Bowery Run Labradors for making our morning with puppy cuddles and snacks!
So proud of Tiffany and Casey for presenting at the Society for Theriogenology Conference in Birmingham Alabama!
Such a beautiful litter! This kind of visit makes our day!
I was grateful to the PVMA for asking me to speak at their spring conference this week. I always enjoy teaching students and other veterinarians!
Last week, Dr. Morgan Agnew and technician Tiffany Hoffman presented at the Society for Theriogenology conference in Seattle!
Dr. Agnew was honored to be included in this months Bellwether.
Dr. Agnew is happy to let all her clients know that she and her son are doing well, even though he surprised us and came early. She will be returning from maternity leave full time starting May 17th.
We have exciting news! Fiona is getting a two-legged sibling in early March of 2021.
Dr. Agnew plans to continue seeing appointments up until the end of February and will be back full time early June. This does mean if we work with you for an upcoming breeding, Dr. Agnew will not be available to follow through with the whelping. She is happy to assist you with making alternate plans for follow up care if needed.
If any clients are interested this year the SFT is hosting a virtual seminar for breeders. Check out the program via the link below. The live seminar is Nov 7th but you can register anytime to get access to the recorded lectures.

Its always exciting to see happy, healthy puppies you helped to breed, especially when they are this cute! Thank you Janelle Hall and Chapel Heights German Pinschers for making our week with this appointment!
We get a lot of questions about what the best thing is to feed pregnant / breeding dogs. Hopefully the link to Dr. Agnew's article on phytoestrogens and canines can provide some information for you.
I am honored to announce that I was elected to the executive board for the American College of Theriogenologists. I am proud to be a member of such a wonderful organization.

We are so excited to share Liz Lordi Jamiolkowski’s and Lacey’s happy news!
We are thrilled to announce the arrival of new puppies into the Clover Wheatens family. Matisse x Lacey’s puppies were born yesterday — 3 boys and 3 girls! Everyone is doing well and I will post more photos in upcoming days.
We are very excited about teaming up these two beautiful dogs and look forward to seeing them grow.
My thanks to Jeanne Pedersen Ferris and Jan Koharik and Ed Koharik for working with me to make this possible. Thank you to Beverly McDonald for always being there for guidance and support.. And a special thanks to Dr. Morgan Agnew at Agnew Reproductive Veterinary Services for facilitating the breeding and providing constant support.
Why do a pregnancy ultrasound?
Clients often wonder if an ultrasound is beneficial. We can do an ultrasound as early as 30 days from the LH surge. This allows us to intervene early if there are signs of placentitis, multiple reabsorptions, placental separation or other abnormalities with the pregnancy. During an ultrasound we check all fetal heartbeats, measure placental thickness and characterize the appearance of the fetal fluids.
We hope all of our clients and friends are staying safe and healthy. We are remaining open and will continue to be available to care for our patients.
Spotlight on our services: We offer transcervical inseminations as a fantastic non-invasive breeding method. There are several major benefits to a TCI. The scope allows visualization of the vaginal mucosa along the entire reproductive tract and the cervix allowing for detection of abnormalities that might otherwise be missed. Once the cervix is visualized with the TCI scope a sterile single use catheter is threaded through the hollow channel in the scope through the cervix and directly into the uterus. The semen is deposited directly into the uterus minimizing loss of valuable s***m numbers. In this video you can see the TCI catheter passing through the cervix.
Did you know we offer semen freezing and onsite frozen semen storage? At a typical appointment for semen freezing we perform 2 collections about 20 minutes apart to get the highest s***m numbers for freezing. After that the stud dog is done, but we have a lot of work still to do. The semen must be centrifuged and properly extended. To freeze well the semen then needs to sit and equilibrate with the extender in the refrigerator for 3 hours. Finally it is loaded into straws, cooled over liquid nitrogen v***r and then frozen in liquid nitrogen. After a partial test straw is thawed and tested for quality the remaining straws are loaded into one of our tanks for storage.
Spotlight on our services: When you visit us for a collection or semen analysis we perform a full evaluation including motility, total s***m count, number of progressively motile s***m and morphology assessment. Our new is***m for motility and count assessment lets you see your stud dogs semen quality in real time on an iPad screen. The iPad is connected to a special microscope that also keeps the sample at the appropriate temperature.
This little lady was found outside with a foreign body in her stomach. She recovered wonderfully from surgery and went to her forever home on Friday ❤️
This little cutie had her ultrasound today and is pregnant with 5 healthy puppies!
Very excited for the newest member of the extended Agnew family. She and Fiona will have so many fun play dates!
