Meet Coconut, our Exotic Pet of the Month for April!

Hi! My name is Coconut. I am a Lionhead bunny and I am 2 years old. I live with my mom, G, and sister, Gingerbread. I love lounging on my pink cooling mat. Sometimes, I even eat as I’m lounging. My mom says I have skill. My fav food are sweet fruits, but apparently I can’t have them as much as I’d like, so parsley is a close second! In my spare time, I like to groom my luscious wool, play with some cardboard, and dig (even though I never get anywhere)!

Meet Lucy, our Pet of the Month for April!

Lucy is a gentle, curious and clever girl who is affectionally called Sweet Lu by the humans in her life.

Lucy loves to stop mid-stride to catch all the smells in even the most gentle breeze. She moves around the house chasing the warm, sunny spots from room to room for peak nap conditions. She likes pizza crust, kielbasa straight from the grill, and splitting a small fry with her human after a hike.

Introducing Harry, our Exotic Pet of the Month for December!

Meet Harry, the guinea pig that puts the “wheek” in unique! Harry was found abandoned outside in the parking lot of a PetSmart but was thankfully rescued by one of the employees and then adopted a few days later. It hasn’t seemed to dull his spirit though, as this big fluff ball boasts a never-ending appetite for green peppers, and the ability to squeak for food with the power of an opera singer. There is no need for an alarm clock when Harry is around! When he’s not munching on a juicy pepper, you can find him cozied up in his hammock, snoozing away or enjoying a cuddle session with his owner. Peppers, naps and cuddles are Harry’s recipe for a great day!

Meet Ellie, our Pet of the Month for December!

Ellie is our sweet senior gal, complete with frosted eyebrows and sugarface. Ellie turns 14 in December and loves nearly everyone out there (especially at the vet!). We're thankful for every day we get with Ellie and she's thankful for dropped food, many soft beds, and the WFH lifestyle that means she's very rarely alone.

11/22/2023

As a reminder, we will be closed Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th for Thanksgiving. We will reopen Monday morning at 8:30am.

There have been reports of a “new mystery disease” affecting dogs, with cases mostly reported in the Pacific Northwest. This disease seems to resemble routine “kennel cough” which is now referred to as Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), but some dogs seem to be more seriously affected. Testing for these diseases can be tricky, and while there is much media around this possible new disease, the data at this point is minimal. As of now, we suspect that there is a very localized outbreak of one of the known viruses, but cannot be completely sure if there is not a new virus that may be circulating.

We would recommend the following guidelines for all dogs, but especially those who have underlying respiratory abnormalities, such as pugs and bulldogs (brachycephalic dogs) or some other chronic respiratory disease:

-Limit your dog’s contacts, especially transient contacts with dogs of unknown health status
-Keep your dog away from sick dogs
If your dog is sick, keep it away from other dogs
-Talk to your veterinarian about vaccination against canine parainfluenza (CPIV), Bordetella bronchiseptica, and canine influenza so that we can make sure that they are protected against those diseases that we do have vaccines for.

If your pet is experiencing respiratory disease, please contact our office, especially if they are having a wet, productive cough, colored ocular or nasal discharge (green or yellow), or have a cough paired with decreased appetite, lethargy or fever.

An interesting take on this disease can be found here: https://www.wormsandgermsblog.com/2023/11/articles/animals/dogs/respiratory-disease-in-dogs-sweeping-across-the-us-outbreak-of-disease-or-media-attention/

Meet our Exotic Pet Spotlight, Lu!

Lu was born in 2014 in Ontario, Canada. She is a world travelling bunny. She has lived in both Canada and the United States, including in Toronto and Philadelphia, and has travelled by plane, train, and car, vacationing in cities ranging from Vancouver to Boston to Montreal. In 2021, Lu made her ballet debut, when she made a brief appearance in an online show, The Circus of Worldly Wonders, with Leigh Purtill Ballet Company. She was named after former ice hockey goaltender and Hockey Hall of Famer Roberto Luongo. Some of her favorite things include mini bales of timothy hay, blackberries and coronation grapes, carrot tops fresh from a friend’s garden, early morning snuggles in bed, and naps in her blue bunny tunnel.
