Congratulations to PROJECT 440 Board member and The Philadelphia Orchestra Assistant Principal Cellist, YUMI KENDALL on her appointment to the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music!

Curtis is thrilled to announce the addition of four new faculty members, all alumni of Curtis!

Soloist, chamber musician, and multifaceted artist Nicholas Canellakis; The Philadelphia Orchestra assistant principal cello Yumi Kendall; Boston Symphony Orchestra member Christine Jeonghyoun Lee; and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra principal clarinet YaoGuang Zhai are all joining the faculty starting this year.

These new additions expand the faculty in both departments and bring an exciting array of experiences that will benefit all of our students.

Registration for our fall programs, including INSTRUMENTS FOR SUCCESS, led by a college admissions expert, is open now. This program provides financial literacy training, covers all aspects of the college search and selection process, including how to navigate financial aid, and features guest speakers who share their education and career paths. We had the honor of being named one of four finalists for the Wawa Foundation Hero Award and received a grant of $10,000 to advance our afterschool programs. This month, you will meet PROJECT 440 students, new alumni, college graduates, and emerging professionals. Ryan is a junior at West Chester University who is studying psychology. He participated in DOING GOOD and INSTRUMENTS FOR SUCCESS and was a member of the YOUTH ADVOCACY COUNCIL. Patty is a music performance and composition major at the University of Delaware, and the Associate Arts and Culture Editor of the Review, the independent student newspaper. Eric participated in many PROJECT 440 programs including DOING GOOD, where he and his peers created "Sharing our Sound," an online network of young musicians that has grown from its original five founders to 12 peer mentors. Over the past two weeks, students in 5th through 12th grades have participated in the All City Orchestra Summer Academy at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts. We partner with the Mann, The School District of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Lyra Society, and Network for New Music on this annual summer training camp for young instrumentalists. The camp concludes today with the ACOSA Orchestra's concert performed on the Highmark Skyline Stage conducted by Joseph Conyers.

Project 440 is unique. We foster young musicians’ passion and help them to build skills that will amplify their future success. Our programs develop students’ confidence and prepare them to thrive whether they work in the music field or not.

Our core programs are: Instruments for Success, Doing Good and the College Fair for Musicians.
