Many of you may not know this, but in addition to owning Obsidian Eats with my wife, I am also a special education teacher in West Philly. My school is asking for donations, the proceeds of which go towards sending our students on global excursions. It’s the opportunity of a life time for our children, many of whom haven’t seen any of the world outside the confines of our city. On the excursions, children learn about slavery in the Caribbean and the civil rights movement by literally following in the footsteps of our ancestors. I’m asking anyone with the means of doing so, who cares about closings he unjust opportunity and achievement gaps that black children suffer from, to please support by making a donation. This right here... we’ll be at the Dickinson Square Park Farmers Market at 10 sharp with a savory pepper steak platter, the recently added pizza steak and several other offerings. Hope to see you there...

Sunday we’ll be back at the Dickinson Square Park beginning at 10 in the morning. On the menu will be our “pepper steak & rice” done our way with with baked peppered seitan & seasoned quinoa w/ fresh string beans, a chickpea burger w/ cassava fries, our seitan cheesesteak done two ways (classic and the now popular pizza cheesesteak), kelewelé, and lemon-ginger juice. Hope to see you there!

The falafel burger from yesterday... delicious as it was, honestly, it’s just a placeholder as we continue to experiment with the recipe for what will be our signature burger. Once it’s ready to be unveiled the game will never be the same again.
