Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion

The Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion is the home to rare and exotic arthropods from all over the world, and now features native and tropical butterflies.

Welcome to the Insectarium! Philadelphia's only all-bug museum, and the largest insect museum in the nation! We have thousands of live and mounted insects, tons of interactive displays, a movie-room, fun stuff for kids, and a whole lot more! Since 1992 the Insectarium has been educating adults and children alike, right here in Northeast Philadelphia, about the fascinating world of arthropods. Hund

Zeema the zebra longwing butterfly fluttered down towards her favorite vine and landed on a leaf. The sun felt heavy as it edged the sky and evenings were beginning to get chilly. Zeema slowly flapped her wings and made preparations to look for another home. This one would be empty soon (~145 hours).

Antoine the ant stilled as he took in the landscape around him. The moss mountains and pebbled pastures seemed to bubble and consume the Earth in every direction. Chilly air slowly swirled across the ground and Antoine raised his head towards the sun. Antoine was sure that he was large and powerful as he gazed out over his land.

Don’t let this Earth day pass you by uncelebrated. Instead, join us at the Insectarium for a night of fun and fundraising to help save our precious museum! Three levels of fun await our guests, with music from DJ Jaji and dancing, and specialty cocktails from small crafters Blue Coat Distillery. Get an inspiring taste featuring local businesses with food from King’s Corner and more, and a dessert table with the delectable delicacies of Velvet Sky Bakery.

Enjoy some up close and personal encounters with various insects and exotic animals as you explore through our enchanted pavilion to discover live performers and marvel at the fantastic ice art of Eric Wagner of Ice Sculpture Philly as his gorgeous, interactive creation takes shape throughout the night.

As you wander, feel free to make a bid at our silent auction on an array of art, antiques, offers and products from local businesses, as well as some fantastic creations using our very own butterflies.

All of the funds from the tickets and auction items will contribute to our efforts to save our fantastic museum, so bring a guest and invite your friends!

Also a special thank you to for taking extra special care of our mantises and being such a fantastic zookeeper.

You impress me. Continuously. You add levity to logic and humility to humor. I laugh and feel grounded in equal measure when I’m around you. You are my compass and my magnet.

In my heart of hearts, I know how very lucky I am to get to be around you so much. To get to share small quiet moments with you. And to get to hold you when you feel both gleeful and sad. When you feel the swelling thrum of imminent zoomies and the muted mists of growing storm clouds. I will be the rock upon which your lighthouse glows.

You make me feel everything and I love you for that. My sweet.

💙

Yes, it’s that special time of the year again. That time when you are veritably obligated to affirm your love for your partner by engaging in romantic overtures of one form or another. Well, amidst all the expectation and pressure, the Insectarium is happy to be offering you a more natural option this year. We’ll be enjoying a casual, relaxing evening complete with flowers and simple drinks. Nothing over the top. Nothing too crazy or off the wall. Just the usual rainforest with tropical butterflies, specialty cocktails, giant snakes, liquid nitrogen, and endless shenanigans.

Join us for a Valentine’s celebration on Saturday Feb 18th and be sure to KISS (Keep It Squirming Silly) at the Insectarium. Link in bio for tickets!
