All week long we’re spotlighting the organizations participating in 2024. Today: Philly Goat Project! The Goat Project are a community group who’ve been based out of Awbury Arboretum since 2018. They provide education, therapy, job training, wellness, and community engagement activities in partnership with the dynamic and delightful capacities of goats. You may have seen them around town shooting photos for their adorable calendars, or in the music video for Philly artist Armani White’s song “GOATED.” The goats have become fixtures of the Strawberry Festival; kids and adults alike love petting them, posing for photos with them, and walking along with their educational Story Walks. Don’t miss them this Saturday!

Spotlight on organizations participating in this year’s : Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild! Since 2009 the Beekeepers Guild have worked to encourage and promote urban beekeeping through fellowship and education, and to raise awareness of the importance of bees to our environment. We love the beekeeping demonstrations and delicious local honey they bring to every festival! In this action-packed shot taken last year, beekeeper Suzanne is demonstrating how honey is extracted from frames.

Historic Strawberry Mansion and the Committee of 1926 are pleased to announce a new special exhibit, opening April 20. "Framing Strawberry Mansion: A Philadelphia Landmark Through Artists' Eyes, 1842-2024" aims to compile an overview of artistic depictions of the mansion featuring both new works and pieces pulled from the HSM archives. These depictions provide a lens through which to explore the evolution of aesthetic trends over the last two centuries of the mansion’s existence; the visible changes to the mansion itself; and the overlap between women’s artistic production and social organizing in Philadelphia history.

On view from April 20 until June 23. Access to this exhibit is included with standard admission to the mansion.

This week, Strawberry Mansion had a special visitor- a very sweet, friendly cat with no collar or chip. She's won all our hearts and a friend of the mansion took her home to care for, but we're wondering if someone out there is looking for her. If you live in or near 19121/19132 and are missing a small female cat (around 6-8 months old), dm us a description of your cat and we'll see if they match!

We just published the first installment in our new Black History Month series, Freedom on Trial! This series aims to highlight a group of men and women who share one special connection to the Mansion: they were clients of the house’s first owner, William Lewis, in his work as an abolitionist lawyer. Each person in this series sought freedom from enslavement via the law, and Lewis counseled or represented them in this quest. Today we look at Ben, a 19th century Philadelphian who won his freedom in court not once, but twice! Read the full story using the QR code or at https://tinyurl.com/freedomontrial
