Pictured below are our Gingerbread Santa’s, Hansel’s, Gretel’s, and Gingerbread Men sitting next to my Great-Grandfather’s original cookie cutters from 1930. Our Gingerbread is made from Lebkuchen Dough which means life cake in German. It’s soft and chewy while being sweetened by honey, sugar, and other spices like cinnamon and a hint of anise flavor. Christmas is right around the corner and our Gingerbread people make for the perfect stocking stuffers!

It’s a beautiful Saturday! With Halloween on Tuesday we do have our spider cookies, ghosts & goblin treats on our shelves, but it’s Saturday and we have a full line of our featured coffee cakes & sweet dough items in the store as well. To quote a customer, our Babka is ”the best ever”. Cheese or Almond Paste are still available.Pictured here is also our Cinnamon Clusters… “amazing”, and our fresh apple cakes squares. The last 2 items pictured are our blueberry-crumb coffee cake and apple-crumb coffee cake. When the bakers wrap these two items up to take home before our store even opens…. well you know they’re really good!!! A baker’s favorite for sure. Our Saturday hours are 7:00-4:00.

Almond Nut Horns (Mandelnusshorn) have made an appearance in our store today. Danish Dough rolled out long and cut down into triangular shaped pieces. Filled with Almond paste and rolled up similarly to a croissant. They get egg washed and dipped in sliced almonds before being shaped, proofed, and baked. Finished off with some striped icing on top. Stop in to give them a try. Grüß Gott. 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪

It’s definitely Oktoberfest in our store today as we feature quite a variety of our German Specialties like: Bavarian Lager Pretzels, Bienenstich, Sachertorte, Butter Sponge Rolls, and Apfel Strudel!!! EIN Prosit. We’re open 7-4 today.

Rum Rings (Nusskranz) are featured today as part of Oktoberfest. It’s a Danish Dough with Almond Paste Tri-folded into it. The long piece of dough is then cut, scaled, twisted, and shaped into a ring. The dough is egg washed and dipped in walnuts before being placed in ring pans to proof. Once baked, the rings are soaked in rum and finished with striped icing. Doesn’t get any more German than that! 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪

Oktoberfest officially begins tomorrow and we’re kicking off the season just right… or should I say “ripe”. Apple season is here and we peeled the first batch of Apples just in time for Oktoberfest. Pictured here is our Fresh Apfel Kuchen, Bienenstich Squares, and Wien Cakes. Can’t get any more authentic unless you were in Germany! We’ll be expanding our Oktoberfest items in the days ahead. Truly precious!!! On Thurs 8/17 Lillian Meredith Haegele entered our world and our hearts! I am now a grandmother and my son Josh & daughter in-law Colleen are now two very proud parents. All are doing well, our family is overjoyed and Heaven is rejoicing with us! 💕🍼

Hi Folks, we’re back from summer break and open again. As you can see from the picture, fresh peach cake is in the store. If you haven’t had a bite of a fresh New Jersey Free-Stone Peach… well a slice of our Fresh Peach Cake is the same… Heavenly. Summer at it’s best is here! We’re open Tues-Fri 7-5 and Sat 7-4.

Friday July 7th, 2023 Haegele’s Bakery turns another page! We are 93 years young!!! Since 2020 there’s been so much uncertainty in the life of the bakery but here we are celebrating 93 years! Faith & Family and a commitment to giving our best have always been the constant… no matter what. I am certain that our 1st generation could never see this future, but through the Great Depression, Wars and losses, and even sugar rations… they stayed committed to the way of life on the corner of Erdrick & Barnett St and for that legacy, we the 3rd & 4th generation are forever grateful. Come celebrate with us as we close out 93 years and begin 94! There’s a piece of cake waiting for you!

Happy 4th of July weekend. Haegele’s is open today til 4:00 pm. We will be closed on Tues 7/4 and regular hours the remainder of the week Wed-Fri 7-5 and Sat 7-4. Next week also brings our 93rd Anniversary. On Fri 7/7 Haegele’s will be 93 years young! Look for our posts, next week and celebrate with us! Have a safe holiday to all our customers!

We make Orange Chiffon Cake throughout the year but I decided to feature it today since it’s Summer and Orange Chiffon is a perfect Summer treat! It’s a light and airy cake, similar to Angel Food Cake, and with a bit of oil in the base instead of shortening it stays super tender and moist. There’s freshly squeezed orange juice added in as well. The cake base (or batter as referred to in household language) is then gently folded into whipped egg whites. The egg whites provide the strength for the cake to stand up high while remaining extremely light and airy like a sponge. An Orange-zest citrus based water icing is thinly spread over the whole cake. See…Citrus & Summer, a perfect pair!

Today is officially the 1st day of summer and we have fruit on our minds, as in Pineapple Upside Down Cakes, Fresh Strawberry & Blueberry Cheesecakes, and Key Lime Whipped-Cream Pies & Tarts. Lemon Rolls will be out tomorrow and who knows for Fri & Sat. If there’s something you want to see in the store… place an order. Think Summer!

Our Fruit Buttercake used to be an every Saturday item, but with a variety that exceeds space we rotate many items. Peach & Cherry Butter cakes are in the store today as our Sat special, and they taste as good as they look! They can also be made with blueberry or lemon fruit topping and we can make them any Friday or Saturday with an order. Just get the coffee ready…

Every once in a while there’s an item in our store from times gone by. Course that can be said for most things in our store but today I decided that our Fruit Custard deserves mention. It’s made in the same fashion as our cheesecake except an egg custard is poured over the fruit filling and then baked. It’s much lighter than cheesecake and it is a true taste of years gone by. If you remember Horn & Hardart’s, you may remember a desert like this. If you’ve had our Cocoanut custard pies, then you’ve tasted our baked egg custard. Just picture the taste without Cocoanut and add a little fruit filling like cherry, blueberry, peach, or apple. Pictured up front is our Apple Fruit Custard and it was one of Jean Haegele’s favorites. I think I might have to have a piece in mom’s honor😁

Memorial Day 2023… To all our customers traveling places, have a safe weekend. Haegele’s is open til 4:00pm today. Though Memorial Day is to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice by laying down their lives while serving in our military; this one picture kept coming to my mind today. Mr. Dan Murray, a proud Marine, had me take this picture on a Veterans Day where he was asked to raise the flag at a service. He was so proud to wear that uniform that day and to do the honors of raising the flag. I will never forget his humble patriotism or the kindness of this dear customer. Mr. Murray went home to heaven this past November at the age of 87. He was laid to rest with Military Honors in Washington Crossing National Cemetary; so appropriate for a man of such dignity, integrity, and goodness. Semper Fi to a dear customer & friend truly missed.

Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow. Petit Fours are in the store and always bring a bit of cheer to a table if you’re celebrating. We’re open til 4:00pm today. This year my mother-in-law, Jean Haegele is celebrating in heaven with my mom and her mom and 1st generation Mrs. Haegele. How the day seems different. But this year I also get to celebrate with 2 new daughter-in-law’s along with my 3 sons and a little one on the way that’s going to make me a Grandmom. Yes happy Mother’s Day across the generations !🌸🌼

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and we are still taking orders for Saturday. We have a large variety of cakes from Pound Cake Hearts to Strawberry Shortcakes. We also have Fresh Strawberry Cheesecake in addition to our regular cheesecakes. Chocolate logs, Petit Fours, Pies, Cookie Trays, Cocoanut Macaroons fill our shelves. Sunny and 80 degrees…Feeling more like May today than April. Looking like May in our store too as we’re featuring our Petit-Fours. We usually have them in the store for Mother’s Day, but they are an item we make to order throughout the whole year. For Tea-Time, Showers, Wedding rehearsal dinners, Holy Communions, and Brunches, Petit-Fours serve as decoration & dessert for your table.

It’s Easter week and our Pound Cake Eggs are filling the store with beautiful color. When asked what we have for Easter, my first thought is always our pound cake egg. Eggs, like butterflies, are a symbol of new life. What better display for an Easter table… a beautiful reminder of the new life that is offered to all because of Resurrection Sunday! Our hours this week are Tues-Fri 7-5 and Sat 7-4.

Our Chicks have hatched! With Holy Week starting this Sunday, Easter is just 10 days away. Our Hot Cross Buns have been available since Ash Wednesday and will be through Easter Saturday. We plan to have our Chick Hi-Hats in the store everyday til Easter Saturday. Course our bakers are the ones responsible for their “hatching” and sometimes it gets a bit difficult keeping up with the multiplication demands, so orders are always appreciated. Easter Egg pound cakes are coming out tomorrow and we’ll have a preview of our Babka available this Saturday too. “Here a chick, there a chick, … everywhere a chick, chick”… you can see why that song is stuck in mind! A heartfelt thanks to all our wonderful customers who came out on Tuesday to celebrate Fastnacht with us. The feasting day ushers in the Lenten season that began with Ash Wednesday, yesterday. I know, I know… I’m a day late in getting this out, but we’ve been a bit busy sweeping up the Fastnacht sugar. Pictured here are our Hot Cross Buns, also known as Lenten Cross Buns. Like our Fastnachts that have a specific time to be made, so to do our Cross Buns. We make them from Ash Wednesday to Easter Saturday. That’s more than 2 days, but if you love them… it’s a short 40 days. I’ll be making a more detailed post about the symbolism of cross buns, but for now… just know, cross buns are here! Thanks again to all of you who follow us on Facebook and our website, and support us throughout the year and through all the seasons of life!
