Gennaro Garcia is a native of San Luis, Sonora, Mexico.
Gennaro was the second Latino artist in 26 years, after Fernando Botero from Colombia, to have a solo show at the Calvin Charles Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ.
Gennaro was born and raised in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. He migrated to Arizona in his early twenties with drive, passion and the desire to create art. In 2012, Gennaro reached his personal goal – a solo exhibit in San Miguel de Allende, in his native México. His art alludes to his dual identity as both Mexican, and now, American.
His use of Italian techniques with oils, acrylics, wood, and plaster, along with the combination of a Mexican color palette from his childhood, has resulted in art that showcases both world-class skill and a true Latino immigrant perspective. To create his first Talavera collection, he traveled to Puebla, Mexico to study the original 195-year-old technique with Uriarte Talavera in which he has a 5-year partnership where he continues to create Talavera.
His art pieces are featured in many commercial and residential interiors, and he has participated in more than 60 exhibits in the last 4 years, including 9 solo shows. Currently, you can acquire Gennaro’s art in 10 different galleries in the United States in various cities in Mexico such as Puebla, San Miguel De Allende, Mexico City, Cabo, San Jose del Cabo, Todo Santos, and Valle de Guadalupe.
Great day at the !
Thank you to this months lunch speaker !
How much can one learn about an artist by viewing their work? A review of painter Gail Haire’s latest pieces reveals a great deal about the soft-spoken artist’s passions – simplicity, calm and color. Her interpretive Southwest landscapes convey a sense of peace with simplified lines and shapes juxtaposed with a bold dose of color. Her paintings invite the viewer on a journey to explore a world that lies far from the hustle of everyday life.
After earning an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Haire began a career in sales and sales management. “Early in my career, I was completely consumed by it, everything came second to work.” Then came a time when she was in her late thirties, where she felt something was missing – balance.
Coming from an artistic family, she had always wondered if she had any talent buried inside. So, when she was looking for balance, Haire decided to turn to art.
She found art lessons that started with drawing and moved to oil painting. When she told the instructor that she had no experience, the instructor answered with ‘passion was more important than talent’. “That was all I needed to hear - I was hooked from the very first lesson! I couldn’t wait for the next lesson and then my first canvas.” Even though work was still consuming most of her life, Haire lived for time to paint. She sought out instructors and mentors that helped her with all aspects of creating art. She expanded to watercolor and worked hard to learn how to let go and let the paint do what it wanted to do.
Recently AZ Cardinals commissioned her to create a 4x16 foot piece called A Perfect Days End which is displayed outside the Corporate Boxes at the stadium.
We’re lucky enough to have a great partnership with . We hand selected this specific barrel after tasting about a dozen!
It’s specific to MAC with no other exact barrel tasting like ours. It’s got the men’s arts council name on the bottle. It’s a 5 year wheated single barrel bourbon from Rebel. We got the whole barrel in, about 240 bottles total. So a limited release of the bottles with the mac name. I’ll have them for sale at the liquor sale December 19th (10am-2pm).
$40/bottle - similar other single barrel bourbons go for $65. This is a great opportunity for the guys in mac to get a unique bottle with our name on it that they can’t get anywhere else!

Phoenix Art Museum’s newest exhibition, William Herbert “Buck” Dunton: A Mainer Goes West is now on display for the public to enjoy thanks to a generous donation by the Men’s Arts Council. Organized by Museum and the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico, the exhibition features some of the most significant works by William Herbert “Buck” Dunton, a founder of the Taos Society of Artists—arguably the most important group to popularize real and idealized images of the American West.

Reminder that our Back to MAC Kick Off Party is on September 16th at .
As we enter into our summer break, the Men's Arts Council wants to reflect on the past few years and recognize the amazing contributions of our exiting president Joel Coen. Joel led MAC out of the 2020 uncertainty with poise and determination by leading the charge to pledge $1 million to Phoenix Art Museum, re-invigorating Art Tenders, and bringing the amazing Vick Richardson aboard the team.
We can't wait to see where our incoming President, Devin Sreecharana brings MAC in the next year!
Here's what Joel has to say about his time as President 🎙️
"It was an amazing year for MAC as we truly made the impact that we set out to make as an organization. We pledged a million dollars to fund several programs that will help our community and extend the reach of the PAM within the metro area. We were able to increase our capacity for impact through new leadership in our ARTenders organization coupled with an amazing hire in Jeremy Retter. Overall, I am extremely proud to be a part of an organization that, when focused, is one of the most capable and devoted when it comes to its mission. Thank you, everyone, for all of your hard work. I look forward to an awesome new year with Devin Sreecharana at the helm."
A massive thank you to for presenting his work at the last MAC lunch of the year!
Papay Solomon is a Liberian-American artist who lives between two worlds: his adopted home in America and that of his African heritage.
His work boldly attempts to reconcile the two with an artistic vision enhanced by his formal education in the West and at the same time wildly alive with the indelible imprint of his home country.
Solomon paints hyperrealist figures, with traces of non finito and color field qualities, to amplify stories and experiences of the African diaspora. With this approach to the figurative tradition Solomon attentively renders his sitters with dignity, complexity, and beauty.
Faces of African immigrants are meticulously imbued with reverence that echoes the grandeur of Renaissance and Baroque portraiture. In doing so, Solomon invigorates the structures and techniques of Western art with an African soul.
Papay currently has a piece titled Portrait of Daniella Nyenyeri hanging proudly in museum.
Thank You for being by our side this week!

Yesterday, the Mens Arts Council invited artist and desert forager to have lunch and teach our members about her art.
The investigative artist gathers materials on hiking and camping trips throughout the southwest. She then layers them with colored resin, transforming these humble materials into lyrical compositions that can suggest astronomical photographs or fine linear drawings. Mayme has worked in Phoenix since 1986 and is represented by the Lisa Sette Gallery where she just opened a new show of her work.

Looking back on MAC's transformative $1 million grant to Phoenix Art Museum. This is the largest single gift in Men’s Arts Council’s 55+ year history, and will directly benefit the Museum’s education efforts, fund technology updates in public gathering spaces, and create new access programs for the community, including free quarterly Family Days and free admission for Maricopa Community College District students.
“For 55 years, the Men’s Arts Council has dedicated itself to providing Phoenix Art Museum with the resources it needs to perpetuate its mission of serving our community through expertly crafted exhibitions and thoughtful education,” said Joel Coen, president of Men’s Arts Council. “This year, it is our honor to commit this substantial donation to continue our ongoing relationship with the Museum and to support the arts in the Phoenix Metro Area as a whole.”
The $1 million grant, in addition to MAC’s generous annual giving, will support a number of key initiatives within the Museum that focus primarily on access, education and engagement, and technology infrastructure.
To increase access to the Museum for more Arizona residents, MAC’s gift includes funding for quarterly Family Days, during which the Museum will open at no cost to families and feature artmaking workshops, guided tours, and other exciting events to make the galleries feel welcoming and accessible to Arizona families who may be visiting for the first time.
MAC’s gift will also support the new associate curator of education position, a role responsible for developing enriching arts-education programs for the public, including lectures, workshops, musical and dance performances, and more. Additionally, the gift will enable the Museum to bring back PhxArt Amplified, the Museum’s popular weekend music festival that featured a wide range of musicians performing throughout Museum galleries and public gathering spaces.
Thank you to David Lenhardt, Museum Board of Trustee member for the outstanding presentation to MAC facilitated by MAC William Ryczek.
Lindhart talked about the tremendous impact MAC is having on Phoenix Art Museum with our one million dollar donation and all the new programs in place because of MAC.
Lenhardt also recommended a great book on the art world for those interested titled
