A big thank you to our friends and supporters at Earnhardt Auto Centers. They were a presenting sponsor of the 100.7 KSLX “Need to Feed” Food Drive, which raised over 150,000 meals last week, but their generosity didn’t stop there. On Tuesday, the entire Earnhardt family visited St. Mary's Food Bank and presented President and CEO, Milt Liu, with a $73,000 donation to mark their 73 years in business. This incredible gift will provide an additional 360,000 meals for our neighbors in need – "And that ain't no bull!"

Thank you, Earnhardt Auto Centers, for your continued support of St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Thank you to all the 100.7 KSLX listeners who supported Dave & Mahoney’s week-long “Need to Feed” drive for St. Mary’s Food Bank in 2024. Donations poured in throughout the week from listeners and our sponsors – Global CU, Earnhardt Auto Centers, Precision Air & Plumbing, and Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys. The “Need to Feed” drive more than tripled its goal, providing 155,000 meals for our neighbors in need.

If you’d like to join us in celebration, KSLX and our sponsors will be at St. Mary’s main location (2831 N. 31st Avenue) for a special Monday volunteer event on Sept. 9, beginning at 11 a.m. Sign up at KSLX.com or come on down and lend a hand!

HDR employees address food insecurity in their communities and gave back to their local food banks through their Day of Giving. These hard workers packed 31 pallets of our senior boxes which will provide more than 30,000 meals. Their donation covered the food they packed. Thank you HDR for sponsoring your volunteer shift.

On National Nonprofit Day, it’s the perfect time to share our newly adopted mission statement along with a small sampling of photos of how it happens - with the help of the entire community! Thank you friends of all kinds - volunteers, financial supporters, food drive participants, board members, partner agencies, community leaders…. The list of friends is endless - and, unfortunately, so is the list of those in need.

Many thanks to Dweezil Zappa and Samantha Fish for supporting St. Mary’s Food Bank with signed guitars for auction last week at Celebrity Theatre. These auctions will provide more than 70,000 meals for St. Mary’s and we couldn’t appreciate the efforts of these artists and Danny Zelisko Presents for their tireless efforts to feed Arizona’s hungry. Danny’ auctions have provided more than 425,000 meals in just 2024 alone. Thank you to all and let’s keep rocking!

Mark your calendar — Phoenix Canstruction is returning for its 17th year!

Join us this Saturday, Aug. 3, inside the Arrowhead Towne Center (7700 West Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale), to watch 11 teams compete to build impressive structures made from 40,000 unopened cans of food that will later be DE-canstructed and donated to St. Mary’s Food Bank!

With your donation of just $1, you can vote for your favorite tower of tin! Your $1 provides five meals to our neighbors who struggle to put food on the table. Last year, more than $10,000 in voting resulted in more than 50,000 meals.

All 11 structures will be displayed from Aug. 3-16. Together we CAN DO® something to alleviate hunger in our communities.

Wanted to share this heartfelt thank you from Harvest Compassion Center/Mitchell Swaback Charities Inc.: "We are incredibly thankful for the new refrigerated van made possible by St. Mary's Food Bank, which enables Harvest Compassion Center to transport fresh and frozen food in Arizona's summer heat. Before, we didn't have a refrigerated van, so we were limited in the types of food we could pick up, the times of day we could operate, and how far we could travel with the food. It’s been a game-changer knowing that we can now accept additional food rescue pickups with refrigerated transport! Thank you, St. Mary's, for always looking out for the needs of your agency partners." - Nicolee Thompson, Executive Director

The St. Mary’s Food Bank child nutrition team celebrated its 10th year of participating in the "Back to School Clothing Drive" at the Grand Canyon University Arena. Over three days, we provided approximately 3,000 meals to high-need kids in the Phoenix metro area. These kids were invited to shop for free at the arena, where they could get new clothes, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, books, personal care packs, and dental exams. Additionally, they received a free meal from our Child Nutrition Kids Cafe Program before leaving. During the event, our team worked with generous volunteers to assemble and distribute the meals to the students on site.

Thank you, Chick-fil-A for your amazing donation to St. Mary’s Food Bank that will help the child and family feeding programs. Your contribution will help provide 250,000 meals, significantly increasing access to nutritious food for children and their families in our community. Your support is bringing us closer to creating a healthier future for our neighbors in need.

How cool is this? Gila River Resorts & Casinos donated more than $61,000 throughout the last year from their patrons. We were thrilled to accept this gift and show them around the warehouse to see how their gift will impact so many Arizonans. They were especially interested and excited to learn about our many volunteer opportunities and our food box program, including our Tribal Food Box, which includes culturally relevant items sourced from vendors on the Navajo Nation. The Everi Cares donation program gift will help us provide more than 300,000 meals to our neighbors in need. PLUS- how fun are these signs?!

To celebrate, a group of summer interns in the Knight-Swift management development program came out to volunteer. Together, they packed 1,800 backpacks that will go to children that lack access to healthy food.

Big shoutout to the AMAZING team at Amazon.com! ✨🎉

We are beyond thrilled to have had such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of 50 volunteers from Amazon come out to support our mission. Your hard work, smiles and energy made a huge difference!

Watching the team sorting food from food drives at our Surprise Neighborhood Food Center was so awesome. This will help us get food out to our neighbors in need. 💪❤️

Thank you, Amazon, for showing what it means to give back. We can’t wait to see you next time!

Thank you to the gracious Justin Hayward for signing one of the nicest guitars we have ever auctioned – a 2011 60th anniversary Fender Telecaster – before Wednesday’s show Celebrity Theatre. St. Mary’s will be able to distribute enough food for 32,500 meals thanks to his generosity, which included a personal note to the winner describing his personal connection to this guitar over the years. Thank you as always to Danny Zelisko Presents who have helped us provide over 160,000 meals in just the past two weeks with Tesla, Todd Rundgren, Joe Jackson, and Justin Hayward all signing guitars for the World’s First Food Bank. Keep your eye out for the next auction, coming soon!

The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) has truly championed our fight against hunger. For more than 10 years, they’ve collected an incredible 7,293 pounds of food, providing 6,078 meals to those in need. 🙌

In one month, DES helped pack 1,440 emergency food boxes and 1,008 senior boxes, ensuring that our community is well-supported.

Thank you, DES, for your support! Together, we’re making a real "meal" of a difference. ❤️

It was a historic day at our Surprise Neighborhood Food Center on June 25 when St. Mary's Food Bank welcomed friends and neighbors for a ribbon-cutting of our new Neighbor Choice Pantry.

Now, our neighbors in need have a choice! They can elect to receive a pre-made grocery cart of food, OR, select the items of their choice, assisted by a volunteer in a mini-grocery store setup.

Special thanks to our great friends from Sprouts Farmers Market for helping us create a small grocery produce section, Surprise Mayor Skip Hall, Councilmember Alyson Cline and all of our friends and supporters who came out to mark this great next step to help our neighbors in need.

Great to have a group from HelloFresh including Sustainability and Social Impact Manager, Kelsey Frandsen, in the house yesterday to help distribute food and Hello Fresh meals to more than 1,000 families at our Phoenix Neighborhood Food Center. Through its “Meals with Meaning” program, Hello Fresh has provided more than one million meals to St. Mary’s Food Bank over the past two years and more than six million pounds since partnering with the World’s First Food Bank in 2021.

Thank you Hello Fresh for helping to close the summer hunger gap for families in Arizona.

This year, Oregano's Pizza Bistro has been an incredible supporter of our Tribal Food Box initiative. They’ve truly outdone themselves by packing 1,190 Tribal Food Boxes and raising $7,017 through sales of “The Cannoli.” 🎉 The Tribal Food Boxes aim to provide high-quality, shelf-stable products deeply rooted in cultural significance and sourced from Indigenous producers. These boxes are delivered monthly to 3,000 individuals from five different tribes in Arizona, containing essentials such as pouched proteins, canned tomatoes, corn and squash, popcorn, beans, and rice, along with a rotating selection between flour, fry bread mix, and cornmeal.

Oregano’s, your Recipe to Giving Back is helping us fight hunger. They’ve truly outdone themselves!

Thanks to Arizona Milk Producers & Dairy Council of Arizona, Fry's Food Stores, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. of the Arizona Diamondbacks for helping raise milk donations this summer at his autograph signing event in downtown Phoenix. The D-Backs are heating up with the temperatures, and these milk donations couldn’t come at a better time for the food bank with kids home for the summer. Milk is one of the most difficult and sought-after donations for food banks, so we thank Lourdes and the D-Backs for helping us fill that void!

St. Mary’s Food Bank has been working with Danny Zelisko Presents and Celebrity Theatre since 2018, raising more than one million meals through guitar auctions.

Wednesday night, the great Todd Rundgren set a record for the partnership, signing three guitars that will provide an amazing 100,000 meals to our neighbors in need. A huge thank you to Todd, Celebrity Theatre and the three highest bidders who were over the moon to go home with one of these gorgeous guitars. And thank you Danny Zelisko for making it possible as a driving force to feed people in Arizona.

Next week, both Joe Jackson Music and Justin Hayward will be performing at Celebrity and signing guitars for the food bank. If you are going, you could go home with one of these amazing keepsakes while providing tens of thousand of meals for Arizona’s hungry.

Congratulations to our great partners at DoorDash for reaching the impressive milestone of 100 MILLION meals delivered to homebound neighbors in need across the country through “Project DASH.”

More than 800,000 of those meals have been delivered in Arizona through St. Mary's Food Bank, allowing us to increase our home deliveries from 900 to more than 6,000 every month.

With Phoenix Councilwoman Laura Pastor in attendance, DoorDash also presented a gift of $5,000 to St. Mary's Food Bank, allowing us to distribute enough food for an extra 25,000 meals.

Shamrock Foods Company and St. Mary's Food Bank have a long-standing partnership dating back to our humble beginnings more than 50 years ago. Our founder, John van Hengel and Norm McClelland were great friends and partners to help those in need in Arizona! That partnership remains strong today! Shamrock’s donations throughout the year of funds, in-kind food donations, and volunteer hours makes Shamrock one of our valued Hunger Heroes!

ALSO, Shamrock brings their summer interns to the food bank each year to better understand how the company supports the community. Kent McClelland, Devon McClelland, the executive staff and more than 65 interns came together last week at St. Mary’s to pack more than 1100 emergency food boxes for seniors. Thank you to Shamrock’s leadership and all of the interns! Not only are you getting a Rockin’ start to your career, but you’re also Rockin’ hunger!
