A few special thank you’s for helping make the El Zaribah Shrine Mounted Patrol Spring 2024 Roundup a success.
Scott Smith and Sara Burris of EZ Ranch our gracious host.

Cowboy Wayne, Ramey of Ramey Ranch for supplying rental horses and generous donation to our Gymkhana event.

Laura Chamberlain, professional chef, and her crew for the wonderful food.

Scott, Bailey, professional, DJ extraordinaire. For the wonderful entertainment and support.

Alyssa Tudor for posting the colors for the national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. And for reaffirming that all the hard work we do to benefit kids like you is worth every minute.

All attendees, participants, old friends, everyone who helped make this a success. It’s harder and harder every year to get people to attend and help us raise money for a cause that we love. But our regulars that keep coming back time after time and supporting our efforts , we couldn’t do it without you.

Josey Gray for the donation of the saddle we raffle off. It’s pure profit for us.. Because of her generosity. I’ve lost count. Two saddles a year for ?? Years? Truly a blessing..

And lastly, but not least, our spouses and significant others who put up with our being gone weekends and evenings to be able to pull off near seemingly impossible feats and help fund miracles. Thank you all.

Spring roundup is a rap. I want to take a moment to share something that I think is important to see. This young lady is Alyssa Tudor. A former shrine patient who is living proof of what the Shriners hospital can do. She can ride a horse, barrel race, is the Current Rodeo Queen for The Andy Divine pro Rodeo, a senior in High School and an absolute inspiration to me and others. The El Zaribah Shrine Mounted Patrol was honored to have her as our guest for the spring roundup. She helped bring in the cows, helped work the cows, participated in the Gymkhana, the awards ceremonies and then helped push the cows back out. I’ve known Alyssa for a few years but I spent a lot of time getting to know her this week. She is simply amazing. When we attend parades and other events as Shriners we try to make the public aware of what we are raising money for. We try to impress upon them the importance of what we do. This weekend was a way to show it. This young lady, doing what other teenagers do without an impairment, is the best way to emphasize why we do what we do. She told me today that a disability is in the mind, not the chair. Can you believe that?
Our motto in the Mounted Patrol is “We Ride so the children can walk” Well sometimes they don’t walk. They ride just like us. Sometimes better. Thank you to all of the Members, guests, and friends who helped her feel welcome and spent time making her smile. I’m sure she won’t forget it. I know I won’t.

Need prayers and positive thoughts for this man. Robert Yoacham He came to a roundup in the past and I instantly liked him and have kept in touch. His Daughter Terrah Yoacham was with him at the roundup and they both have had a rough go for a while. Robert is in the hospital with a serious medical condition. Let’s think positive and bring this cowboy some luck. Nice guys are hard to find so hopefully we can keep him around a while. Keep fighting my friend.

We are often asked what to expect at the Roundup. Here is a quick snapshot and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out..

Most people arrive on Thursday afternoon or Thursday evening. This is highly recommended. Dinner is at 6 PM and we have a meeting to line out which groups you would want to be in the following day. We have one group that we lovingly like to refer to as the man from snowy River type ride. usually the most experienced and most agile horses for the terrain.
Then there are other groups of less experienced riders and horses. These will not be as rugged of terrain, but you should still be expecting rocks, cacti, and some slopes.
We also generally have a smaller group who meet up later to assist in small water crossing and then help with the final push.

The Friday ride leaves at 7:00 am sharp. It’s an hour or 2 to where the cows are. Then get them together and drive them back to camp. Usually back around noon but sometimes it’s longer and has been as late as 2-3 pm but that’s rare. Food is professionally catered onsite from dinner Thursday night to breakfast Sunday morning. Once back on Friday you can help sort, process, and doctor cows or you can relax at camp. It’s dry camping no hookups but there are coed restrooms and showers. 20+ years no issues just sayin lol. Saturday is the Gymkhana with buckles for prizes. Then you can relax in camp, work cows, go for a trail ride etc. Saturday evening is dinner with a great DJ we give out the prizes then you can dance, karaoke 🎤 or just sit by the fire. 🔥. It’s a good time. Let me know what else you’d like to know.

The 2024 Potentates ball for illustrious sir Darrell popo Mandrel and his lady. Sorry this is the highlight of my photos because I was busy having a fantastic time. But let me tell you that’s a testimony in itself. A wonderful evening celebrating what we do and why. Here’s to a fantastic year of raising money for the children and forgive me for being bold but having a fantastic fun time doing it. Like my my counterpart in the mounted patrol Captain Johnny lewis said tonight, Just when you think it’s too much trouble, just when you want to say I’m done it’s too much work, we attend a parade or we have a night like this and it reminds us, it refuels us to keep going for the sake of the children. God bless the Shriners as we do what we do. I am so proud and so honored to be a part of the greatest philanthropic organization in the world. As a member of the El Zaribah Shrine mounted patrol I am proud to say we ride so that the children can walk. And all the clubs and units of the El Zaribah shrine do what we do with the greatest pleasure and honor possible. Thanks to all my brothers for doing what you/we do. It’s an honor to serve with each and every one of you.

We are looking for sponsors to help fund our spring round up in April. This can be individual sponsors, business, sponsors, etc. For instance, we have a sponsor who covers the cost of the DJ for music. We have in the past received sponsorship for the prizes for the Gymkhana. There are a few open spots for various sponsorship. Reach out today to find out how you can help us help the children. Remember our motto, “We ride so that the children can walk”. Pic for attention is a former Shrine child Alyssa Tudor meeting Amberley Snyder.
