WPSCA Slovak Beer Tasting at Emilâs Lounge in Pittsburgh! Here is another video from the event!
What a wonderful day we had at the Slovak Beer Tasting! Fabulous food, incredibly joyful music and the setting felt like stepping back into history. Thank you to Krissy Kochis, Bobby, and the wonderful staff, as well as the talented George and Mikey for the tunes.
Sneak peek #3 for this Sunday's event at Emil's:
"Rick introduced us to Krissy Kochis, daughter of the original Emil and proprietor of the lounge bearing his name. Unfazed by the fact that we ordered half the menu, Krissy was happy to show off her familyâs tradition of preparing what she called classic âHunky food,â borrowing a term once used disparagingly to refer to Slavic immigrants who came to Pittsburgh to work in the steel mills, now used lovingly by their descendants who embrace the moniker as a point of pride."

Enjoy a view into the Slovak traditions of Ĺ tedrĂ˝ VeÄer, Christmas Eve. What are your family's traditions?
What a great time we had at the December Heritage Meeting! So interesting and lots of fun, too. People from all over the Pgh. area came to the meeting - Monroeville, Steubenville, Wall, Shaler - to name a few. Lots of "new" faces. Many stayed after the meeting to talk and exchange stories.
"In some Slovakian towns and villages, St. Nicholas, or Svaty MikulĂĄĹĄ arrives in a horse drawn coach, accompanied by an angel and a devil who rattles a chain. While waiting, children fill the streets with singing and dancing. St. Nicholas has a present for each child and in some villages he visits each home."
