Looking for a source of information and inspiration in Pittsburgh? Newcomers are welcomed to our monthly member meetings where they'll find workshops and demonstrations. Other seasonal events include the annual spring show, tree auction and the summer picnic . Come down and find expert information on all aspects of bonsai, plus sources for trees and supplies. We even promise to have member trees at every meeting just appreciate. Bring in your own tree for some care or styling advice.

Adam Lavigne will be coming to PBS in July. Adam will do a presentation/demo on grafting trunks together to make a thicker base on July 18th. He will be bringing trees from Florida for sale. If there is a specific species you are interested in, email me and Adam will try his best to find it for you. As for price point, Adam says that trees up here are 2-3 times (retail) more than what he can get them for in Florida. Adam will also do private work on Friday. If you are interested, email me and let me know. He charges $60/hr. and will come to your house. Don’t forget to sign up for Adam’s workshop on July 20th! You can bring your own tree or purchase one from Adam. Hope to see you there!

Don't forget...Young Choe, Kusamono artist, will be at the Church of Our Redeemer from 7-9pm, Thursday, June 13th for a demo and presentation on wildflower collection. Weather permitting, on Friday, we will hold a collection excursion. Email Linda Diesing at [email protected] if you are interested. There are still spots available for both the morning and afternoon workshops on Saturday. If you cannot make the collection excursion, there will be wildflowers available for purchase at the demo and workshop.

BACK 2 BACK Events! Don't miss these two great events! Join us this weekend for our annual Bonsai Show at the Millvale Community Center, June 8th & 9th. Then the following week, join us as we welcome Young Choe, world renowned Kusamono artist, Thursday, June 13th for a demo and presentation on wildflower collection at the Church of Our Redeemer in Squirrel Hills, collection field trip, Friday, June 14th, and wrap it up, Saturday, June 15th, with a workshop to build your own Kusamono or Kokedama. You must be a registered member of PBS to attend the Young Choe field trip/workshop.

Jim Doyle of Nature’s Way will be with us on Saturday, April 27th for a lecture on deciduous decisions and demo on a broad leaf species. All members are welcome to attend. The lecture/demo will be at the Church of Our Redeemer from 9-noon. In addition, there will be a workshop from 1-5pm, on Saturday. The cost of this workshop is $130 and includes one of Jim’s San Jose Junipers. If you are interested in a BYOT workshop, Jim will be back at the church Sunday, April 28th, from 1:30-5:30pm. Have trees that need repotting? Join us for a free repotting workshop at the Church of the Redeemer, 5700 Forbes Avenue, from 10-2. Experienced members will be available to help, if needed. Bring your trees, pots, and soil. We will have soil for purchase, if you don’t have any. Club wire and tools will be available. If you are working on larger projects, you should bring your own appropriately sized tools. Any trees that have a rootball/pot larger than 12” and trees that are in clay or field soil are not permitted. Hope to see you there!

Due to overwhelming interest, we have added 5 more slots to the root over rock workshop. So come join us March 23rd as award winning bonsai artist, Daniel Yobp, teaches us the Root over Rock technique. Don’t forget to also purchase your Trident Maple for the workshop, if needed, or you can bring your own tree. Trident Maples are only available to those taking the workshop.
