PUBLIC ZOOM MEETING THURSDAY OCTOBER 20, 2022 at 7:00 pm.

The Hearing Loss Association of America, Pittsburgh Chapter, will be hosting a meeting on THURSDAY OCTOBER 20, 2022. When we receive permission we will return to DePaul School for Hearing and Speech 6202 Alder St., Shadyside). Our email is [email protected]

Hello all. The month of October is a month where many things are set forth for awareness. Among these … along with Breast Cancer, Bullying Prevention, and even Mental Health … is Disability Awareness. As you all know, hearing loss is considered as a disability, even if you do not think of it that way.

At this month’s meeting, as a way to celebrate our Ability, let’s have a discussion on your experiences on: How do you make others aware of your hearing loss? What do you tell people? How do people react? What do they do? How long do they do it?

Different scenarios we often find ourselves in running errands and doing the things we do in our everyday lives. We can talk about the different scenarios we find ourselves in, such as our work environment; grocery shopping (especially at the deli counter); in a restaurant; at family gatherings; in the hospital; at the doctor’s office; and even on the bus or in any other situations.

In discussion, I would like others to share their own experiences. Please come ready to share or at least discuss how you deal with any situations. Perhaps you have a way to deal and cope with these situations which can help someone else here!!! After all, that’s what we are here for! To help and support each other.

PUBLIC ZOOM MEETING THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2022 at 7:00 pm.

The Hearing Loss Association of America, Pittsburgh Chapter, will be hosting a meeting on THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2022. This is a public meeting and will be by zoom, begins at 7:00 pm and will end by 9:00. (Please remember all meetings will be on Zoom until further notice. When we receive permission we will return to DePaul School for Hearing and Speech 6202 Alder St., Shadyside). Our email is [email protected]

I apologize for taking so long to get this out. I have had quite a summer, so let me tell you what happened!! As some of you may know, I ride a motorcycle and I am involved in an anti-bullying motorcycle group (K-Dogs Kids Mission).

Well, one afternoon right before Memorial Day, as I was riding to do a visit with a child, I was hit by a truck. It was a pickup truck and the driver crossed the center yellow line. Unfortunately, I was not able to avoid it and the truck hit me.

I suffered a broken leg and fractured orbital bone (eye socket), and a number of lacerations around my eye. As a result, I have been in recovery ever since, which has affected every aspect of my life. As I focused on recovery, other things I am involved in have been pushed back, including this. However, I am making progress in getting back on track with my recovery and I want to get this all back on track, too!!! So thank you all for your patience!!!!

At this month’s meeting, I will lead a discussion on my experiences in the hospital, doctor offices and other. I will tell you how I dealt with my hearing loss in the emergency situation and the hospital, and how the staff of the hospital reacted and more.

In discussion, I would like others to share their own experiences and how you dealt with any situations that may have developed.
