Beautiful seeing everyone come out to support, pray and be there for Dvir Ashual and his family after the passing of his beloved father Yoav Ben Nissim.
May the Avushal family know only joy and happy occasions!

Hi guys,
As you may or may not know, there was a violent incident about 18 months ago. In which an anti semite (Noah Amato) fired a gun at my nephew Zalman Barrocas, Noam Ben Simon and my two sons Avi and Dovi.
The sentencing hearing is this Friday at 9:00 am in the St. Johns county court house.
We would love your help in two ways.
1. If you can attend the hearing, that would be great.
2. if you would take a few minutes and email the judge and express to him how your life has been impacted by this. Such as increased fear, added security, any hesitancy attending events. It would be very helpful. Also, please share this with others that might be able to help.

Tomorrow in Chassidic History: Passing of R. Levi Yitzchak Schneerson (1944)
Av 20 is the yahrtzeit (anniversary of the passing) of the Lubavitcher Rebbe's father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson (1878-1944), in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan. Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was Chief Rabbi of Yekaterinoslav (currently Dnepropetrovsk), and was arrested and exiled to Kazakhstan by the Stalinist regime as a result of his work to preserve Jewish life in the Soviet Union.

The 15th of Av is undoubtedly a most mysterious day. A search of the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Law) reveals no observances or customs for this date, except for the instruction that the tachanun (confession of sins) and similar portions should be omitted from the daily prayers (as is the case with all festive dates), and that one should increase one’s study of Torah, since the nights are beginning to grow longer, and “the night was created for study.” And the Talmud tells us that many years ago the “daughters of Jerusalem would go dance in the vineyards” on the 15th of Av, and “whoever did not have a wife would go there” to find himself a bride.
And the Talmud considers this the greatest festival of the year, with Yom Kippur (!) a close second!
Indeed, the 15th of Av cannot but be a mystery. As the “full moon” of the tragic month of Av, it is the festival of the future redemption, and thus a day whose essence, by definition, is unknowable to our unredeemed selves.
Yet also the unknowable is also ours to seek and explore.

What Is Tisha B’Av? 08/13/2024

Tisha B’Av (August 12-13 this year) is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. Learn more about how and why we observe this day on our site 👉 https://bit.ly/3M36ADu

What Is Tisha B’Av? Why do we mourn on Tisha b'Av? A historical overview and a digest of the day's laws.

08/12/2024

Tonight & Tomorrow in Jewish History: Tisha B'Av
Holy Temples Destroyed (423 BCE and 69 CE)
Both the first and second Holy Temples which stood in Jerusalem were destroyed on Av 9: the First Temple by the Babylonians in the year 3338 from creation (423 BCE), and the second by the Romans in 3829 (69 CE).

The Temples' destruction represents the greatest tragedy in Jewish history, for it marks our descent into Galut--the state of physical exile and spiritual displacement in which we still find ourselves today. Thus the Destruction is mourned as a tragedy that affects our lives today, 2,000 years later, no less than the very generation that experienced it first hand.

Yet the Ninth of Av is also a day of hope. The Talmud relates that Moshiach ("anointed one"--the Messiah), was born at the very moment that the Temple was set aflame and the Galut began. [This is in keeping with the teachings of our sages that, "In every generation is born a descendant of Judah who is worthy to become Israel's Moshiach" (Bartinoro on Ruth); "When the time will come, G-d will reveal Himself to him and send him, and then the spirit of Moshiach, which is hidden and secreted on high, will be manifested in him" (Chatam Sofer).]
