Is this thing on?

Howdy partners! I’m Rocky, the sweetest meatball in the Wild West! I started my journey at Animal Aid after my previous family had a baby who was very allergic to me. The transition has been a little… Rocky … but I’ve proven myself to be the most loving, goofy partner in crime to the new people in my life. My nervousness around strangers can easily be worked through with patience, yummy treats, and a good head scratch. Don’t be surprised if I sound the alarm when danger approaches our home!

I haven’t spent a ton of time with other dogs, but I never seem to mind being in the same space as them. I ignore them and mind my own business. I’m sure I could get along with a canine sibling if introduced slowly. I’ve shown an interest in chasing the neighborhood cats outside, so a cat free home is probably ideal. Older, respectful kids are also totally in my social wheelhouse.
I’m looking for a home with either a fenced yard or a very quiet neighborhood. I’m still working through my fear of all the sights and sounds that I encounter on leashed walks outside of my comfort zone. A personal yard to zoom and play would be perfect for burning energy and those pesky extra pounds that I’m trying to lose.
My foster parents say that I’m a total dream when left alone at home. No separation anxiety here! As long as I have a loving family to cuddle with at the end of the day, I’m putty in your hands.

Estimated birthdate 9/2020. Weight 80lbs

August is National Make-A-Will Month and when planning for the future it’s important to consider your pets. While Animal Aid provides a lifetime commitment to all the cats and dogs who are adopted from us, not all cats and dogs have this safety net. Animal Aid developed the Gift of Life Program to help cat guardians have peace of mind that their beloved cats will be taken care of if their people pass away first.

Our Gift of Life program allows you to secure a safe landing spot for your cats as part of Animal Aid. Learn more at: https://www.animalaidpdx.org/gift-of-life/

Meet Orangina! She is a petite cat that needs to go home with her daughter, Root Beer. Before coming to us, she was on the streets raising a family. Since coming to us, she has began to love being cozy and enjoying every meal.

August is National Make-A-Will Month. Have you considered Estate planning for your pet? Marion is an example of the importance of Estate planning as she came to Animal Aid when both of her people suddenly passed away. Her only remaining family was very allergic to cats and unable to keep her.

Allow us to reintroduce you to Handsome. He is a very friendly and social cat with a big purr-sonality. He is talkative and likes to be around other animals, so he would do best in a home with a playmate. Handsome of course lives up to his name, but also can get a bit sassy when overstimulated.

If you want to meet Handsome, come by our office and see him in our main room!

Pictured is a white and orange cat who is comfortable in a cat bed. Second photo in the carousel has the same cat with his face planted in the wall of the cat bed.

It's Foster Friday and time to meet the cutest bonded pair you've probably ever seen - Penny & Sadie!

What they 'lack' in size, they make up for in personality! Sadie (fluffy) is the more reserved of the two but that doesn't stop her from loving everyone she meets and looking for a lap to snuggle up on. Penny is a social butterfly who is always ready for an outdoor adventure or a game of tug. Both pups do well with kids, other dogs, and even cats!

Meet lucky!
He's one of the amazing cats in our main room right meow and he loves to snuggle with others. Lucky is super talkative and friendly. He can get overstimulated and would do best in a cat savvy home.

It's !
All of our dogs go into foster homes and Twizzler is a pup who was a stray at another shelter before coming to us. He loves to play, socialize, and give tons of love. Twizzler would do great in a home with another dog friend or with someone who is active and can continue to give him puppy play dates.

If you want to learn more, visit our site or give us a call.

Foster need/Help!

Howdy parters! 🤠 Coming at you live with some pups hot off the press! We’ve got two terrier gals moving into the emergency kennel (potentially as soon as tomorrow), and I’m gathering a team of caretakers to help make their stay as smooth as possible. Most importantly, I’d love to find them a foster home so that they don’t have to stay in the kennel very long (and I don’t end up keeping them).

About the dogs -
Two terrier mixes, ~20-30lb, ~9 years old. They’ve lived together for 8 years and would love to stay together wherever they go. Sadie (white and brown) loves kids, walks, and giving you face kisses. Penny (black) loves playing, giving you sad eyes for treats, and going on adventures. They’ve cohabitated with small dogs, cats, and older kids without issue. I’ve already met them and can vouch for how lovely they are.

We’ve got open time slots in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Weekends are where we’ll need the most help.

Please send an email ([email protected]) if you’re interested in helping. If you know someone who’s interested in helping but hasn’t fostered/volunteered before, have them submit an application with a note about what they’d like to help with.

Thank you ❤️

It's the summer solstice and the longest day of the year! We thought it was the perfect time to share some summer tips for your furry friends.

1. Keep cool - watch for symptoms for overheating, check pavement heat before walking your dogs, and don't shave your pets since it messes with their built-in temperature regulation. Never leave pets in the car!
2. Always keep water readily available - self explanatory but make sure there's always access to water at home or on adventures
3. Garden safety - be mindful of the plants in your area since some of our pets like to take a munch now and then, so make sure they are non toxic for animals (google image search is great for checking)
4. Firework safety - as we head towards 4th of july, make sure pets have microchips and have what they need to feel safe when hearing loud noises

Other tips:
If possible, create a cooling pad for pets during really warm days (this can be as easy as a wet towel or a towel put in a freezer for a little bit)
Brush your pets when you can
On outdoor ventures, look for shady spots to take a break

Any other tips you can think of? Share them below!

Continuing with adopt a shelter cat month with miss Allegra. She loves to spend time with people and loves spending afternoons on a lap. She is looking for a quiet home, preferably as the only child.

Pictured is a kitty with stripes and long white whiskers. Allegra has one ear tipped and is cuddling in a soft bed. She is six years old.

On top of adopt a shelter cat month, it's also national foster a pet month! Since it's , we wanted to share a little bit about Twizzler who is currently in a foster home and looking for his forever home.

A bit about Twizzler:
🐶goofy/playful
❤️loves playing with other dogs (no cats)
🐾accepts all the cuddles
☀️needs a home with an active lifestyle

Interested in learning more about Twizzler, give us a call or go to our site.

And we are always looking for foster homes for our cats and dogs, if you feel like this is something you have room for, please fill out our foster application! Our dogs are always in foster homes and with more foster homes, we can take in more pups (and cats) 🫶

Happy Foster Friday! Today we’re featuring our sweet Jazzy girl!

Jazzy is an affectionate cat with plenty of energy! She likes to chase string toys, but prefers to play and hangout without other cats or dogs, so would do best as a solo gal. Some things she loves include: attention, her food, and hanging out in a lap (when she’s feeling cozy)!

She’s looking for someone to be her best pal for the long run & if you think this could be you, check out the link in our bio 😻

National Rescue Dog Day!

We are celebrating a Happy Tails story today!
Nala was a rescue from Texas who was brought to us and fostered by our Finance & Volunteer manager through her 6 month heart worm treatment. Her sweet demeanor meant that she’d have no trouble finding her forever home! Nala was adopted by a wonderful couple in September of 2020! The best news? She’s a wonderful big sister!

Here’s what her adopters have to say:
Since adopting Nala, our lives have been filled with laughter and love. Her mischievous antics (especially around sneaky food theft) bring us laughs everyday.
Nala’s gentle natured personality especially around our newborn makes her the perfect addition to our family. We’re grateful for the happiness she brings into our lives!
We couldn’t be happier for Nala and family!
