Have you heard of “kakishibu”?
Made of fermented unripe persimmon, this Japanese dye creates this rich, earthy brown color, while waterproofing the surface its applied to!
You can see how it adds color to a sheet of kozo, enhances the fibers in this drawing on an unryu paper.
